3rd Annual Indian Comic Con – 2013

Feb 10, 2013 | Art, Exhibitions

For the love of new-age comic art and merchandise, despite our super tight schedule, we made it a point to attend Comic Con at Dilli Haat. Indian comic art has come of age and is at par with International standards.

Indian epic characters have found new avatars through the visualization of the modern Indian artists. Draupadis and Sitas have shed their “sati savitri” looks and have donned the persona of modern women. Rams and Krishna’s sport biceps and six-pack abs with angry looks. New characters straight from contemporary urban Indian life have found their comic place under the sun.

The merchandise comprised of fun badges, key tags, T-shirts, and yes! printed cupcakes 😀

Cosplay a lesser-known activity here was also part of the programme.

Interaction with artists and self-published cartoonists found lots of audience. All chairs at the amphitheater were full.

Comic Alert: Our comic artists, skilled as they are – are aping Western styles. Consequently our own Chacha Chowdhary, Shikari Shambhoo, Billoo, Pinky, and Raman seem out of the race. We miss the simplicity and the use of the free space in this new genre of comics.
