‘Ashta-Darsanam’ – Geeta Chandran and Sudha Raghuraman

Geeta-Chandran-Ashta-Darsanam

Venue: India International Centre (IIC)

We have seen Geeta Chandran perform mostly on vocal support by Sudha Raghuraman. However the performance at IIC this Saturday was announced as a sort of jugalbandi between these two artists with Sudha getting equal mention. Apparently Sudha was the host of the show and Geeta was the guest.

Geeta Chandran exudes the ease of a pro Bharatnatyam dancer. This evening she essayed ashtanayika mostly through abhinaya. The one hour odd performance was the usual sensory delight. Though we like Geeta more in her pure classical numbers.

Sudha Raghuraman’s vocal rendition was extremely pro. The language barrier never comes in your way when you listen to her singing. You just enjoy whatever she sings.

The climax of the evening was the sankeertan “Banmali Vasudeva Jagmogan Radha Ramana” through which Geeta Chandran ends most of her performances.

It was a Saturday well spent in one of our favorite venues – C.D. Deshmukh auditorium at IIC.
