Bell Pepperz – Mother’s Day lunch for a vegetarian mother

To take out a staunch vegetarian mother for lunch,  the choices are very limited. She is a huge Sagar Ratna  fan and that is the go-to place almost every time she has to dine out. For this Mother’s Day lunch, just to take a break from South Indian food, we reserved a table at Bell Pepperz. Since it is a pure vegetarian restaurant and just a 10 minutes drive from home, it suited us perfectly.

The restaurant is on second floor and they have elevator facility. The decor is simple, traditional and seating arrangement is definitely not messy with tables having some partitions for privacy. The menu is big and confusing and it’s quite a task to figure out what is mentioned where. We had kids with us and irrespective of whether it is an Indian restaurant or an Italian, they just want noodles wherever they go. So on their demand we started by ordering a Hakka vegetable noodles. The noodles were substantial in quality and good in taste. The veggies were crunchy and they did not kill it by overcooking. We loved it.

From the Indian main course we ordered Dal Bukhara Bell Pepperz style, which is their take on the famous Dal Bukhara along with Palak Paneer and Stuffed Alu Kulcha. Dal was finger licking good and we were happy, we skipped Dal Makhani and opted for this. Palak Paneer was decent as well, though not as flavourful as Dal. We didn’t like the stuffed kulcha much as the filling was somewhat wet and raw. It didn’t cook properly with the Naan. A thinner layer of filling could have made it better. For next round of breads we ordered Butter Naan which was great. It was a perfect combination with Dal Bukhara and managed to overcome the let down we had with the stuffed Kulcha. Had we ordered this in the first place, the lunch experience would have been even better. But overall, no major complaints.

The food at Bell Pepperz give you the kind of satisfaction, only Indian vegetarian food can provide. While its vegetarian, its not your typical Jain food where they don’t use onion, garlic at all. That’s why Bell Pepperz was a perfect Mother’s Day lunch for a Punjabi mother who only prefers eating at vegetarian places.
