Bijoli Grill is a renowned caterer in Kolkata. West Bengal House in Delhi popular as Banga Bhawan, has a canteen / restaurant that is run by Bijoli Grill.

The dining area is divided into two sections. The first is for unlimited thalis that have a fixed menu. The other section serves ala carte dishes. We sat in this section and ordered luchi, chholar daal and chicken cutlet.

Luchi is the Bengali version of the north Indian puri, albeit smaller, fluffier and lighter. The cholar dal is chana dal, which is seasoned with a little sugar to suit Bengali culinary tastes. The chicken cutlet was a big chunk of fried minced chicken. It came with kasundi – Bengali mustard sauce.

The luchi and chholar daal combination was extremely tasty and we went for round two. This left us enough space for chicken cutlet which was crispy on the surface but tender inside.

The ambiance was simple and fuss free. One can easily get a parking inside the complex. We paid less than 600/- for that dinner and would recommend this place for Bengali food that does not burn a hole in ones pocket.

Incidentally Bijoli Grill also runs the West Bengal food outlet at Delhi Haat, INA. Somehow we felt that the food at Banga Bhawan is better.
