Burma Burma – New outlet at Select Citywalk Saket

Oct 23, 2017 | Eating out, Food

We have been great fans of Burma Burma. We have dined at their Cyberhub outlet a few times and have recommended this place to all and sundry – vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike. During one of our earlier visits, we had asked them what was the rationale behind serving vegetarian version of a cuisine that is predominately meat based. Apparently they wanted to provide variety to all those diners who were strictly vegetarians and were not comfortable in non-vegetarian food environment. That could be their explanation. However, Burma Burma keeps having diners from all food habits – vegetarian or non-vegetarian – for the great food that they provide.

The good news for Delhi foodies is that Burma Burma now has an outlet in Delhi – Select City Walk, Saket. The restaurant is as gorgeous as the Cyberhub outlet. Done up with a host of handicrafts in wood and lacquer, the outlet has an underlying Buddhist theme, a religion that we in India share with Burma.

Some of the staff here were earlier at the Cyberhub outlet and they flashed smiles of recognition on seeing us. One of the prime reasons that we come back to Burma Burma is their hospitality. The attendants are warm and attentive and their behavior is reflective of great training in customer service.

We enjoyed a simple meal of soup – salad – main course and dessert here. As expected, every item that we had was delectable. Take for instance, the three salad combo. The tea leaves, fresh vegetables, peanuts, condiments, and awesome balance of sweet and tanginess was a burst of fireworks on taste buds. We kept nibbling on the salads throughout the meal. The other dish that we tried on recommendation is faus meat steamed buns. Nice but their non-imitative dishes we feel are tastier. We also ordered Eldragon, a dragon fruit based drink. This was soft in taste and the pulp of dragon fruit with the seeds provided an interesting crunch.

The dessert items deserve special mention. The pao with jaggery and coconut filling was something novel, something quite unimaginable and yet familiar. Coconut and jaggery, frequent ingredients in Indian food, made a lovely combination with soft but neutral tasting steamed buns. The other dessert that we tried – coconut custard served with crunchy butter caramel crumbs and a sticky toffee sauce was just magic. For one, the plating was super photogenic. Sweet – crispy – yet mild – yet wholesome but filling – this dessert is a must have here.

We ended our dinner with green tea. Burma Burma is a tea house as well and they serve and sell amazing green and white teas. We had a white tea that helped settled the healthy but filling meal.

We are glad that the Select City Walk outlet of Burma Burma is as much of a Fun-Do as the Cyberhub branch.
