Christmas events in Delhi – OZ haat charity mela

Venue: Australia high commission, Chanakyapuri

Christmas is about the spirit of giving. In line with the Christmas spirit, the Australian High Commission’s pre-Christmas fair Oz Haat Charity Mela is about charity. A host of charitable organisations, welfare groups and NGOs set up stalls at the verdant lawns of the Australian High Commission. The products they sold included Christmas décor and related items, clothes and winterwear, handmade ornaments, crafts, home décor items, handmade toys, food/beverages and to extend the festive cheer – mugs of beer. Kids’fun zone and games were also organised throughout the day. Some children were sitting on the lawn and painting away.

All in all it was a wholesome event for the young and the old. There is no entry fee for this fair. Given that the event is just on for a day, it is a surprise as to how they manage to draw such footfall. It is indeed among the fun things to do in Delhi for Christmas. However it is inside a high security zone and entails few rounds of frisking. An identity card is also necessary for entering the area. Parking could be a little messy so you could try the parking zones near Nehru Park or Ashok Hotel. The Oz Haat Charity Mela on a warm and golden day ushered the Yuletide spirit in many of us.

The OZ Haat Charity Mela sounds exciting. There is Mela everywhere but this one seems to be unique. Over and above no entry fees? Wow. Will suggest my friends of Delhi!

Yeah but the fair has not changed over the years. It’s very much the same and we do it like an annual ritual every year.
