Durga Puja and Dussera

Oct 12, 2013 | Fairs, Festivals, Kolkata

This festive season Delhi Fundos went out on a pendal hopping spree to Delhi’s mini Kolkata – C R Park. We did various Puja Pendals in C R park. We Started with Durga Badi Puja Pendal. It was a beautiful Pendal with a lot of food stalls. We had some fuchkas and home made rose crackers with tea there. The idol was made in a traditional style looking beautiful and divine.

This was followed by some more Pendal hopping, Jhal Mori and Mishti in C R Park. After that we drove to Connaught Place to view the Arambagh Durga Puja Samiti Pendal. Apparently they spent 1 Crore to make this pendal and was  inaugurated by Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam.

It was almost 12 in the night and we still had some time and energy left. We drove to Gurgaon to watch Durga Puja at Valley View Appartments. It was small and traditional style pujo pendal set up in the lawns of the apartment.

On Dussera one of us managed to see Putla Dahan (Raavan, Kumbhkaran and Meghnad’s Effigy burning) at Ashok Vihar Phase I Ramleela ground. People had turned up in thousands to watch the ceremony. Once the effigy was set to fire the crowed clapping and chanting “Jai Shri Ram” sounded like a prelude to upcoming Diwali Festival – The biggest Festival for Hindus.

Having Jalebis after Putla dahan is a norm in north India. We also did the ritual. Post dinner we savoured this amazing desert.
