Venue: Central Park, CP

Palash Sen and Euphoria are not in popular circulation since the last few years. However, their open air concert at the Central Park demonstrated that they have a loyal fan following who have their songs on the tip of their tongue.

We were there for about an hour or so when Palash and his group (and his audience) sang their hits – Mai Ri et el. Palash’s simple singing style, aided by his contagious energy and interactive stage skills made him the darling of the large audience who stood patiently all over the park and listened to him sing. People came and went. However almost everyone was careful that their movements should not disturb the upbeat mood of the evening. ‘Kabhi aana tu meri gali’ struck a chord with many in the audience – young and younger – as they dedicated this song to their desired one. A great weather in the evening added to the experience.

Rock concerts are a genre that are not hugely popular in India and are limited to college fests and the odd music festival held that is organized in winter. The English language in which the rock is sung could be an inhibiting factor. However, Euphoria’s concert showed that, like many other South East Asian countries (Taiwan, Hong Kong, Vietnam) Hindi can be a very potent language for this genre of music.

We look forward to listening to more.
