Farzi Cafe has created quite a name for itself in Gurgaon and it was quite high on our to do list for some time. We had yet to dine there and they have opened another outlet in Connaught Place. So not to delay it this time, we went to their CP outlet recently with a bunch of friends. The place was buzzing with a lot of diners even on a Tuesday evening.

We started with a few cocktails that had funny names like Santa Bunta, Apple Foamintini and Monkey Sour (Their take on Whiskey sour ) etc. We loved Monkey Sour better than the others. We had to request them to make the drinks less sweeter and the drinks tasted much better after they fixed it.

Mishti Doi shots looked fab and tasted nice.

Apparently they focus a lot on presentation. Everything had some gimmick… some smoke or foam or something else to pep up the looks but we felt it was an overkill. For example when asked for a salad they served some lettuce, broccoli and a roasted paneer skewer topped with some foam. Foam on top of a salad – not a great idea.

Anyway we had some starters like cheese poppers, paapad archini, vada pao inside out, chicken drumsticks and we liked some of it. The looks of the dishes raised the expectations and some of the dishes couldn’t live up to it when we tasted them. So was the case with two of the desserts we had. We skipped the main course and jumped to desserts right after our starters.

It looked stunning, full marks for the plating but taste wise it was a let down. The coconut ice cream was hard. One of the staff members came and explained why the ice cream was hard but somehow we still believe they can do better. Another dessert Milky way had a few dollops of ice cream and other desserts on a platter and the waiter served it with some rabri puree. It was quite a show with smoke and pouring the puree on top but the taste wasn’t great. It felt like having ice cream and kulfi together in one bite… not our cup of tea.

Service was good but not great. At times we had to remind the staff 3-4 times to repeat our drinks. That’s not cool.

Farzi did not disappoint us but at the same time, failed to wow us as well.  But we haven’t given up on them. Maybe some other time, another outlet on a better day!
