Fruto-Freesh

Most lists of vegetarian eating places list South Indian or North Indian options. For a break we dug deeper into Zomato one Thursday evening and came across Fruto Freesh, a vegetarian joint in Green Park market.

They serve Continental and North Indian vegetarian cuisine. Their USP is low fat and healthy food – for instance – zero oil Paratha / Tikki, Tofu Salad or Brown Burgers etc.

On our last visit we ordered Cottage Cheese Steak from their continental section and Fusilli Specie Di Ricotta from their pastas. The steak consisted of roasted cakes of cottage cheese in a mushroom sauce. The sides were Penne Pasta and sautéed colorful (see pic below) vegetables – broccoli, bell peppers, baby corn and green zucchini. The ingredients were fresh, not over cooked as they still had a little crunch in them and their tastes and flavours complimented each other perfectly.

The pasta was made with a ricotta cheese sauce, was moderately seasoned with garlic, black pepper and had some vegetables. The serving was modest and it tasted just nice!

The place is well lit, has simple decor, and exudes positive vibes. With the freshness quotient, they live up to their name.

Two disappointments though. First, we felt that tea at Rs 49 per cup – (a regular tea bag dipped in a milk and water concoction) – is unreasonable. Second, the paper glasses and photocopied menus (they had colourful printed menus earlier) are tacky.
