Saksham theatre group held their annual theatre festival at Akshara theatre. In this series we watched an enactment of the only play written by Khushwant Singh – Tyger Tyger.
A group of tourists comprising a European couple, an ex-Maharaj, an IFS officer and a hippie had come to stay at a forest bungalow when a man eater was on the prowl. The play is based on the responses of the guests and the guest house staff in this situation.
The effort was amateurish and the amphitheater at Akshara was just not suitable for a scorching but humid summer evening (no fans of any kind). Nonetheless the play succeeded in capturing the right mood and creating a very convincing atmosphere. The audience, continuously fanning themselves with whatever they could find, still managed to enjoy it.
