Hindi cinema, after ages of formulae, has recently started breaking loose. A zombie movie is one such step. Yes once again its about three guy friends (arggh…), but this one is surely different.

It is an uncomplicated story line – as an effect of a new narcotic sold at a rave party in an isolated island off Goa, the users turn into zombies who are satiated by devouring human flesh & blood. Three desperate friends (Vir Das / Kunal Khemu / Anand Tiwari) attend the rave party. Three of them along with a girl (Pooja Gupta), the rave party organizer/drug lord Saif Ali Khan and his assistant became targets of hundreds of zombies who drag themselves around the island looking for food. They finally manage to escape from the island on a  boat to Goa.

It’s not over yet. When they row back to Goa, they see devastation there as well, probably another zombie attack. To know more on this, one would have to wait for the sequel.

This is all entertainment on a week evening. If one discounts one or two scenes of cannibalism, the film is not very scary. Infact, the marriage of comedy with horror is praiseworthy.

Though the script doesn’t allow any scope for songs, the music director managed to churn out a couple of foot tapping numbers.  “Slowly Slowly” is an instant hit. “Khoon choos le” is also nice n fun. We love the music video.

Frankly, the cast is completely wasted. Perhaps because Saif is the producer, he decided to throw in the weight of his name as an actor as well… His fake Russian accent was kinda irritating.

But this one is not about Saif or acting skills or intellect. We are not sure how financially successful the film would be. That said, on hundred years of Indian cinema, this film should be appreciated for its novel theme. It is an experiment which may indicate if there are takers for such homegrown films in the Indian audience.
