Almost dull throughout the year, Dilli Haat Pitam Pura came to life with Great Indian Food Festival happening on 23-24 January this year.
Though it failed to attract the snob crowd from south Delhi or Gurgaon, or to create a lot of media buzz, the event holds more significance than some of the widely publicized and popular food festivals. This festival is not about already established restaurants selling overpriced food that goes to Instagram before your mouth, but is about small start-ups that have almost no presence as of now. We loved some of the new concepts that we noticed in this food festival like:
Indianfeel.com – A new portal where they sell all specialties of various states of India that one can purchase online. You can buy gur coated bananas of Kerala sitting in Kashmir and Kashmir’s kahwa to warm you up in Delhi winters.
Rollmatol – Selling all vegetarian whole wheat rolls in various combinations like rajma roll, veg jalfarezi roll etc.
Cones and Curries – selling curries in cone shaped naan
Epigamia – Greek yogurt in various flavours like Banana and Honey to mint chaat, these Greek yogurts are healthy and free of preservatives.
In tune with representing something new, the great Indian Food Festival had fitness trainers, doing Zumba at the amphitheatre. The overexcited crowd also joined the trainers and tried to match steps with them.
We had Kahwa, Greek yogurt and a plate of Soy Kebabs at the festival.
Though the festival can’t boast of lines of swanky cars and hip crowd, it does bring some new food concepts to majorly ignored West / North-West Delhi.
