Date:

Venue: State Emporia Complex, Baba Kharak Singh Marg

Hunar Haat” was a traditional crafts and skills pavilion at the India International Trade Fair, 2016. The second “Hunar Haat” is being held from 11th to 26th February, 2017 at State Emporia Complex, Baba Kharak Singh Marg, Connaught Place.

The fair was inaugurated by Union Minister of Minority Affairs, Shri Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on 11th February. With the theme “Craft Aur Cuisine Ka Sangam”, the fair is equally divided into crafts and handloom section and a food zone. Approximately 100 artisans and 30 culinary experts from about 24 states and Union Territories are participating at about 130 stalls in the “Hunar Haat”.

The crafts section features a host of unique items such as leather bags with kantha patches, hand painted pottery, handmade padlocks & door handles along with phool-patti works from Aligarh, cocoon decorated products from Nagaland, Mizoram, handloom linen from Haryana; handbags and purses from Mumbai; bandhej, mojri and Makrana marble from Rajasthan and so on.

The food court or the “Bawarchikhana” has stalls offering cuisines from various states of India. There are a couple of stalls selling Mughlai food. A confectioner from West Bengal is selling super tasty sweets made from “nolen gur” (jiggery). Their puffed rice ladoos called Joynagarer moya are fragrant, moist with a slightly milky sweet taste. We couldn’t resist packing these for home as well. We also bought dry fruits from the Kashmir stall.

The “Hunar Haat” is organized by the Ministry of Minority Affairs and is a great endeavor to bring traditional crafts to people. Given the footfalls, their effort has borne fruit and you can try “Hunar Haat” over the weekend.
