Lady Baga-a bit of Goan-a bit of Portuguese

Oct 21, 2017 | Eating out, Food

The infamous Goa holiday plan that is always made to get cancelled can wait for some more time. Now Delhiites can experience Goa in Delhi (atleast the food and drinks) at Lady Baga. Launched some time back, the restaurant enjoys a lot of popularity for it’s theme, cuisine and openness about sexual orientation.

The spirit comes alive in the ambiance, hippie decor, faux sand beach and the laidback vibe of the place. You go footloose and just let your hair down over a few chilled beer and seafood at Lady Baga. We attended a preview of their new Portuguese menu – The Portuguese Connection on a recent Saturday evening.

Our weakness for whiskey based cocktails led us ordering Agave Foosball and Poncha Sadness, latter being our favorite cocktail at Lady Baga. Tangy, refreshing and subtle citrus in taste this can transport to any beach – from Goa to Hawaii. We gulped down a few starters and quick bites with these cocktails. Chicken BBQ fries and fish rolls made with Red Snapper were just right with our drinks. But Cheese and fig toasties were love at first sight and even better than Prawns on toasties.

Some of the starters are slightly high on mirchi – to balance that we tried sandwiches that were mild in taste and quite filling. Pork lovers must give Pork Sorpotel a try. This Spicy gravy dish is served with pao.

For desserts, we tried Apple Crepe which was flambeed with alcohol. Theatrics apart, this wasn’t very impressive. Moreover the alcohol added slight bitterness that didn’t work for us. Thankfully, we also tried Serradura on recommendation. Topped with cream, layered on biscuit dust, this tasted amazing. You keep discovering the hidden flavors even after a few minutes of taking a bite. We would highly recommend this dessert.

In fact we had tasted Goan food (read coastal cuisine) at Goa Niwas, Sanadige, and Zambar, but it is great to have another good option for fishy cravings in NCR. Not only that, Lady Baga, with the feel of the 60s that led the hippie movement, blends great food, mad drinks and a trippy vibe with loads of openness. So on a day when one just wants to go with the flow, Lady Baga and their Goan and Portugese menu is a great Fun-Do.
