Saanjh (official name Rishton ki Saanjh) is the first film made in the Himachali language that is going to grace the big screens in metros this April. The film is shot in various locations in Himachal Pradesh and has already been released in International film festivals. Movie Saanjh has received the best feature film award in Borrego Spring Film Festival held in California, U.S. Famous Bollywood singer Mohit Chauhan has sung first time for a Himachali Film. He has sung two songs from the movie and was present at the music launch.

Looks like Bollywood is finally ready to go beyond Khans and Miss Indias and is willing to explore and experiment with new themes and new people. Guy and girl next door are the new heroes and heroins of mainstream cinema. Many films in recent times succeeded in making profits and impressed audiences without any saleable star cast. So much so it looks like the urban mainstream Indian cinema audience is also interested in quality regional language films now. Many films in the South like Roja, Bahubali, Rajkahini, etc have created waves that reached Mumbai and the filmmakers dubbed these films in other languages to make their work reach pan India. It’s a win-win for the audience as well as the whole team involved in the film.

We recently attended the music launch party for the Movie Saanjh at – Cafe & Bar, Connaught Place. The film has two songs sung by famous singer Mohit Chauhan and the other three by budding singer Pavitra Chari. Mohit Chauhan who is also from Himachal Pradesh, was present at the music launch along with the rest of the team behind the movie Saanjh.

Chauhan spoke about his association with director Ajay Saklani and also crooned a bit with the music director Gaurav Guleria. The audio CD of the film Saanjh was released in the presence of friends and media. The film marks the debut of many artists like lead actors Aditi Charak and Vishal Parpagga along with first-time music director Gaurav Guleria. Known Bollywood actors Asif Basra and Taranjit Kaur are also playing key roles in the film.

Small-budget films have their own charm. Anaarkali from Aarah, Jugni, and Un-freedom have dealt with various issues without compromising on entertainment quotient. These films have a freshness and there is something that the directors are trying to convey that would probably get lost in a 100-crore film.

We wish all the best for Movie Saanjh and hope that people watch it on big screens in Hindi as well as Himachali. We love such cinema and look forward to many more films from all parts of India coming to cinemas in Delhi NCR.
