Nritya-bhinaya by Uma Sharma & her group
Kathak dancer Uma Sharma and her troupe from Bharatiya Sangeet Sadan presented a dance ensemble “Giridhar Gopal” at India International Centre (“IIC”) to commemorate Janmashtami. Dr. Sharma’s dances, Pt. Jwala Prasad’s vocals as well as the performances by the troupe kept the packed audience spell bound. Dr. Sharma organizes this program at IIC every Janmashtami and we hope to be back for many more such performances.
Cottage Cafe Smoothie Factory: Not so smooth experience
Smoothie factory’s outlet at Cottage Emporium, Janpath looks very promising but disappoints with their overpriced food and bad service. Though its a good option for people looking for health food like grilled sandwiches, salads and fresh fruit smoothies, it can’t be visited frequently given the food prices. Moreover the seating space is very limited.
What makes Delhi Book Fair 2015 a fun do…
The Delhi Book Fair was recently held at Pragati Maidan during August 29 – September 6, 2015. It presented a wide gamut of books on a variety of subjects from publishers in India and abroad. Notwithstanding the warm and sticky weather, the fair registered a decent foot fall. In addition to the Book Fair, Stationery Fair and Corporate Gifts Fair were held concurrently.
Karna Lake – Roadtrip from Delhi
A day trip to Karna lake, about 140 Kms from Delhi, takes about 2.5 hours. Once out of Delhi, the highway is dotted with dhabas and resorts where one can stop for breakfast/lunch or even spend the night. Gulshan dhaba, where we stopped, is a somewhat modern take on dhaba which does not disappoint. Karna lake, surrounded by greenery, is a great photo op. Further, boating facilities make this a very attractive fun-do for children as well.
Yes Minister – Bowling, Bar & Kitchen
Yes Minister is a sports bar in Essex Farms (off IIT Flyover). They have amongst others snooker, ice hockey and about four bowling alleys. The food and drinks require some improvement. However the place is spacious and given the convenient location (bang opposite Hauz Khas Metro Station), this is a fun-do any weekend.
Dastkar Desert Crafts’ Bazaar 2015
Dastkar Desert Crafts’ Bazaar 2015 (20 – 31 August, 2015) was recently held at Kisaan Haat,, off Chhattarpur Metro Station. The exhibition involved sale of handcrafted merchandise from the desert regions of Gujarat and Rajasthan. Additionally, there were makeshift stalls selling regional food as well as cultural performances in the open amphitheater.
Naturally Cool – Natural Ice Cream’s West Delhi Outlet
Natural Ice Cream, the popular Bombay chain has opened a new outlet in West Delhi at Rajouri Garden. Their ice creams contain real fruits in a milk base. They do not add artificial flavours and the taste of the ice creams is mild and refreshing. They have other outlets in CP and GK.
Dance Like a Man – Cineplay written and directed by Lilette Dubey
The cinematic version of Mahesh Dattani’s English play “Dance Like a Man” was recently screened at Delhi Gymkhana Club. Given that the direction and the cast boasted names like Lillette Dubey, Suchitra Pillai, Joy Sengupta etc., we expected more.
