Summer is decidedly here in Delhi. From our experience during the summer months May to September, fewer outdoor activities are held in Delhi NCR. This is compensated by a surge in auditorium based programmes such as concert and theater. Consequently we have recently watched a fair amount of theatre in the last couple of weeks like Gauhar, Speed the Plow, Deliciously Chekov…
Our repertoire of theater includes abstract to musicals to comedies to simple college theater. Square heart productions recently staged the comedy Refund at LTG Auditorium. Directed by Chetan Malhotra, the storyline of the play is simple. The central character Buddhiraja, a failure in life asks for a refund for his school fee. How the school and the teachers handles this unusual claim is the crux of this play.
It’s a no brainer and requires more rehearsal. Further some of the jokes lost the impact because of repetition. That said the actors were novice but their freshness and enthusiasm was massive and touched our hearts.
The duration was a very decent 1 hr and 15 minutes and not for a second were we bored. We would also give them brownie points for being punctual – A rare trait in event circle in Delhi NCR. The best part about this play that it totally lacked pretence and was a fun weekend watch.
