Summer vacation is here and people are busy making plans. Some are fortunate to travel afar. But for others, the going is not so bad – not bad at all! The ranges of Himachal, a great respite from the heat of the plains of NCR, are easily accessible from Delhi by buses, trains or private transport. Some of these places can be covered over a weekend and are still not spoilt by tourist pressure. Khajjiar is one such gem.
We had come across the Katarmal Sun temple, also known as the Varaditya temple, quite by chance during our trip to Nainital. The way up was tough and we were alerted about that by the locals. We still decided to go ahead with this visit, and we regale on our decisions that we actually did.
We keep scouring for weekend getaways that can be covered over a Saturday – Sunday. Lansdowne in Uttarakhand is one such destination. We left on a Friday evening and returned on Sunday night. This is a brief account of our trip.
Sitting in the fast paced Delhi NCR, at times, one yearns for a getaway. This isn’t easy since we do not have too much time on hand to prepare, to travel, to enjoy the destination and be back on our work desks Monday morning. A way out are the mountains of Himachal. Just 6 hours drive and one is at Kasauli – 6100 feet above sea level and officially a hill station.
A day trip to Karna lake, about 140 Kms from Delhi, takes about 2.5 hours. Once out of Delhi, the highway is dotted with dhabas and resorts where one can stop for breakfast/lunch or even spend the night. Gulshan dhaba, where we stopped, is a somewhat modern take on dhaba which does not disappoint. Karna lake, surrounded by greenery, is a great photo op. Further, boating facilities make this a very attractive fun-do for children as well.
Dalhousie and Khajjiar in Himachal Pradesh are a must do for people looking for peace and quiet and a system format from city life.
Mount Abu is the only hill station in Rajasthan. We found Mount Abu to be a very activity oriented hill station. There are temples, sunset points, forests, trekking, shopping options, a lake, heritage places and options galore. Even in the month of June an excellent weather made this trip very pleasant and memorable for us.
Dilwara Temples Mount Abu, Dt. Sirohi, Rajasthan Date: 20 June, 2014 People travel hours from all over the world to view the Dilwara Jain Temples. From Delhi all it takes is a night journey on Rajdhani, (New Delhi Railway Station, 7:50 p.m.). We dropped at Abu Road station at about 6 in the morning and […]
Mussorie.,why? Thats what our friends asked. The question is valid. We could not identify a single thing in Mussorie that is not available in other hill stations. The mall road-the highest point-the fantastic view while you track. . Mussorie has it all. And that worked for us immensely. We went up there just to relax […]
