Ansal Plaza – The place that started Delhi’s mall culture is on its way to revival. A handful of new restaurants and pubs are trying to bring back the lost glory of this place. Taksim is a new resto-bar at Ansal Plaza on Khel gaon marg. We were invited for the launch party on a weekend evening and we made it to the event. This casual dining place is “divided” into a couple of floors (hence the name Taksim) along with a small outside dining area. The cuisine is mostly finger food, small bites of continental/Indian variety. Items that go well with cocktails and beer.

Food wise we do not expect a lot from pubs but Taksim did not disappoint. Apart from one vegetarian starter most of the stuff was good. Vegetarian galouti kebabs with bite size paratha were a let down. They looked great but we could not excuse the overtly smoky-bland taste of the kebabs. These hard core non veg dishes should left as non veg dishes. Their vegetarian versions are rarely impressive. We just gulped these down with our vodka based cocktails.

But Thai grilled basa coated with delicious sauce saved the day. This was tender, subtle in taste and oh so beautiful. Prawns were served in a martini glass and were delicious as well. We also had a bite of their vegetarian sweet corn pizza and it was good. Chicken pizza took eternity to arrive and we kept smoking our sheesha  through this long waiting time.

Taksim is your place if you like to booze with a bunch of friends in the evening over some decent starters and small bites.
