Kasundi is a mustard based sauce from Bengal. It is way more fiery in taste than other mustard sauces that are available. Traditionally, this was made in all households during early summer when Mangoes are still raw, but consumed throughout the year. It’s the raw mangoes that give Kasundi its tangy flavor. Today this is a village industry and packaged Kasundi is available at all groceries in West Bengal.
It’s a great relish with fritters, saag and sandwiches. During peak summer, it is also had with soaked rice. This combination helps in cooling the digestion system and opening the taste buds. In Delhi, Kasundi is available at many departmental stores, small shops that carry Bengali items in Community Centres and of course all markets at Chittaranjan Park (C. R. Park).
