A stranger guest was the first play we saw during Bharat Rang Mahotsav 2017 organised by National School of Drama. The play is a presentation from Israel directed Vera Berzak Schneider Theatre Group. In a very decent duration of less than an hour, this English play creates the trauma of a small family where the mother is sick and bedridden and the other members are trying to cope with it. In a very subtle way the director managed to create whats going on inside the husband and daughters mind through activities on the stage.

The family members are fidgety, not knowing what to do… even when the doctor told them there is nothing to worry, they know it in their bones what’s coming. They wait for a stranger in this difficult night. Arrival of this guest is inevitable and time undecided.

Though predictable, the climax was executed beautifully and the director kept the subtlety of the whole play intact till the end.
