Afsana, the finale of Bharat Rang Mahotsav, was a simple play in three acts. Or may be, not that simple. It is about two middle aged men who became friends after one of them ran over the other’s wife! They were also competitors – both were wannabe writers – one got published while the other was struggling with cancer. The camaraderie between the friends as to who would take the bill gives a sense of deja vu. Then there was terrorism and cross dressing, mock murder and more kebabs!
Take this – one of them, to look like a middle eastern terrorist, couldn’t find anything better to don than a nun’s outfit at the laundry where he works. In fact during the third act, when the actors were trying to fake a murder and make a video of it, the audience was in splits.
It was humor all the way. Polished and balanced. There was a lot of scope for overacting. But the actors as well as the director showed restrain.
A befitting finale to the Bharat Rang Mahotsav.
