Venue: Kamaani Auditorium, Mandi House
One of the first plays this year at Bharat Rang Mahotsav was Anji. Based on Vijay Tendulkar’s script, this one was almost a masterpiece.
The combination of abstract along with reality was new and lent the play layers. Although this play was under the comedy genre, the ending threw up some burning questions. Such issues often confront the society’s value system and everybody is left baffled. Any flip in the duration of the play (the audience shouting out, most rudely, that the sound was low) was smartly and ‘playfully’ handled by the cast.
Good things perhaps are best enjoyed in measured doses. The play tended to drag and so our evaluation – an “almost” masterpiece.
