Trucks have always been about carrying goods from point A to point B. That seems to be prehistory now. They are a source of all sorts of innovative ideas such as truck art and food trucks. It is exciting to see how passionate people are moving out of cushy jobs and are bringing food to the consumers in trucks. These beautifully designed food carriages park at designated places and have their dedicated set of diners. Food truck is a revolution of food business in India.
To celebrate this lovely mode of food sale, and perhaps to promote the idea, Food Truck Festivals are being organised off and on. We recently visited the 2nd edition of the Delhi Food Truck Festival at Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium during 25 – 26 November, 2017. It was a chilly early winter evening and what with all the food trucks parked all around, it seemed like a food dreamland. It was a melange of established as well as new food trucks that were serving everything from the humble momos to pizzas to noodles to naan-daal to desserts. Waffles seem to be the dessert of the moment and the counter guys were growing crazy catering to the surging crowds. Witlinger had a prominent stall and beer was the most popular beverage that evening. The food truck had some seating arrangement that was very sought after. It was a family affair and the footfall included toddlers to their grandies.
What worked for the Delhi Food Truck Festival was a relatively affordable entry ticket. This ensured everybody could join in. Posh localities already have food trucks parked regularly in the area. It was for the others to enjoy the food truck movement. Consequently, Delhi Food Truck Festival is a great leveller and a Fun-Do way to spend a weekend evening and we will let you know when this happens again. Keep an eye on upcoming events in Delhi.
Food trucks are latest. I attended a day wedding where they had food trucks to cater to guests.
