We have been exposed to Done Thing earlier and were most excited with the services they provide. For the benefit of friends who just joined us, Done Thing is an online application that offers services of a personal assistant as per the requirement of the user. We were earlier exposed to their services in connection with a wedding. They took care of all the mundane, thankless but time consuming chores allowing us way more time and bandwidth to chill and relax with our family who we were meeting after a very long time.
Our recent experience was in a totally different setting.
It was a working day in January when Delhi weather was at its best. Gloriously sunny but pleasantly cold, it was another day full of meetings, con-calls and activity. There was a phone call from home that got me a little curious since I am not called at work unless it was serious. Thus “Home” flashing on the phone screen was a matter of concern. Or premonition as I realised later. On that ominous call I was informed that I had just lost my father in Kolkata. There was no prior warning and this was as sudden as it could get. I went numb – was it sorrow – was it panic – was it resignation – still haven’t been able to fathom.
But as the only son, I realised that this was just not the time to mourn. A lot had to be done, step one, I needed to travel to Kolkata asap. But my faculties had become inert – I was unable to think clearly or take any step. In such state of utter panic, I reached out to Done Thing. This was the time I needed assistance if ever and I had very little time to lose.
I quickly explained my situation to them and surrendered to their support. They calmly heard me out and with a very professional but sympathetic approach, chalked out the course of action.
The first action was to book a ticket on the next available flight. It was already 3 in the afternoon and the day was getting over. Choices were already limited. Still they managed to get me a ticket on a flight that was taking off at about 5:30 p.m. and if I had to make that, I had very little time. But I was not carrying an identity card with me without which I could not travel. Also, I was bereft of any suitable attire.
Action two, Done Thing pitched in here as well. They made arrangements that an identity card was picked up from my place and reach me in time at the airport. They also made a small bag with some clean under clothes as well purchased a pair of kurta pajama of my size from Khadi. This would be needed during rituals that I would have to partake during the funeral. They also packed some fruits that were permissible food during Hindu mourning period. This was perhaps their most touching act that I shall carry with me forever.
Done Thing’s services gave me time to compose myself and handle urgent assignments on my desk so that I did not have to bother about office for the next couple of days. In some time, I left for the airport again in a vehicle booked by Done Thing for me, their action three. My identity card, a print of my ticket and a neat package with the other belongings were handed to me at the airport by a representative from Done Thing. I was overwhelmed by their promptitude and meticulousness. They were a shoulder I could lean on one of the toughest days of my life.
That day was a day of panic and chaos and I needed someone to do #BhasadKaTheEnd I had never needed more support in my life. It was because of the prompt action by Done Thing that I could live up to the harsh requirements of such a difficult day in my life.
Thank heavens for Done Thing – the personal assistant is a dream come true.
