SUMMARY:Tyeb Mehta: Bearing Weight
DESCRIPTION:The Kiran Nadar Museum of Art (KNMA) presents Tyeb Mehta: Bearing Weight (With the Lightness of Being)\, a landmark exhibition celebrating the birth centenary of Tyeb Mehta\, one of India’s most influential modern artists. Presented in collaboration with the Tyeb Mehta Foundation and Saffronart Foundation\, and curated by Roobina Karode\, the exhibition marks the first-ever comprehensive retrospective of the artist. \nFollowing a prelude at ART MUMBAI 2025\, the exhibition expands at KNMA\, New Delhi\, into a full-scale exploration of Tyeb Mehta’s life and artistic practice. Featuring over 120 works\, the exhibition spans paintings\, drawings\, sculptures\, film\, and rare archival material\, many of which have seldom been exhibited. \nThe retrospective brings together some of Mehta’s most iconic series\, including Falling Figure\, Falling Bird\, Bull\, Diagonal\, Kali\, and Mahishasura\, reflecting his response to conflict\, myth\, and the human condition in post-independent India. The exhibition also presents Mehta’s short film Koodal\, a powerful meditation on life\, death\, and symbolic roles of humans\, animals\, and deities. \nEnriching the narrative are rare archival materials such as early studies\, notebooks\, photographs\, and historic exhibition documents\, offering fresh insights into Mehta’s creative process and legacy. \nEvent Details:Exhibition Dates: 5 February – 30 June 2026Days Open: Tuesday to Sunday (Closed on Mondays and National Holidays)Time: 10:30 am – 6:30 pmVenue: Kiran Nadar Museum of Art (KNMA)\, Saket\, New DelhiCurated By: Roobina Karode

SUMMARY:The Friend That I Never Had - Art Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:The Friend That I Never Had\, a solo project by Neha Sahai\, opening on 7th April and on view until 28th April 2026 at EDGE\, LATITUDE 28\, New Delhi. \nThe exhibition brings together a new body of work that explores intimacy\, companionship\, and the forms of connection that remain unresolved or imagined. Working with a reduced visual language of flattened colour fields\, softened contours\, and minimal detail\, Sahai constructs quiet yet emotionally charged spaces where figures exist in states of proximity without resolution. \nAcross the paintings\, recurring hybrid presences move fluidly between human\, animal\, and mythic forms. These figures function as emotional carriers of memory\, projection\, and substitute intimacy\, allowing Sahai to build a deeply personal visual vocabulary that sits between autobiography and fiction. Extending beyond the canvas\, the artist’s studio becomes part of the exhibition itself\, offering viewers an intimate entry point into her process. By bringing the space of making into the gallery\, the exhibition situates the works within the lived rhythms of repetition\, return\, and sustained engagement. The Friend That I Never Had creates a contemplative field where closeness remains partial\, meanings unfold gradually\, and relationships exist in quiet suspension. \nExhibition Details\nTitle: The Friend That I Never Had\nArtist: Neha Sahai\nVenue: EDGE\, LATITUDE 28\, Lado Sarai\, New Delhi\nPreview: 7th April 2026\, 6 PM onwards\nExhibition Dates: 7th – 28th April 2026\nTimings: Monday to Sunday\, 11 AM – 7 PM

SUMMARY:प्रक्रिया / Process - Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Shrine Empire’s new gallery space in Defence Colony\, New Delhi\, where architecture takes centre stage in redefining how art is experienced. The gallery\, designed by AD100 architect Vritima Wadhwa\, Founder and Design Principal of Project 810\, will open to the public on 22 April 2026 with its inaugural exhibition प्रक्रिया / Process\, on view until 23 May 2026. \nExhibition Details:\nTitle: प्रक्रिया / Process\nDates: 22 April – 23 May 2026\nVenue: B-24\, Defence Colony\, New Delhi 110024 \nप्रक्रिया / Process reflects on process as both method and meaning\, bringing into dialogue a wide range of practices rooted in the South Asian context. The exhibition features works by the gallery’s roster of artists\, whose practices emphasise process\, research\, and the conceptual use of media and material. \nThe show features artists including Amitava\, Anoli Perera\, Arun Dev\, Awdhesh Tamrakar\, Baaraan Ijlal\, Divya Singh\, Hema Shironi\, Moonis Ijlal\, Nandita Kumar\, Neerja Kothari\, Paribartana Mohanty\, Ranjana Thapalyal\, Renuka Rajiv\, Sajan Mani\, Samanta Batra Mehta\, Sangita Maity\, Sarker Protick\, Shruti Mahajan\, and Tayeba Begum Lipi. \nConceived as a departure from the conventional white cube\, the 2\,400 sq. ft. space foregrounds experience\, layering materiality\, light\, and spatial rhythm to create an environment that invites pause\, reflection\, and sustained engagement. From a striking entry descent to intimate reading and lounge areas\, the space is envisioned not just as a site for exhibition\, but as a space for dialogue and deeper interaction with art. \nWith this new space\, founders Anahita Taneja and Shefali Somani continue to shape Shrine Empire as a discursive platform\, one that encourages audiences to engage more meaningfully with artists and their processes\, extending beyond viewing into dialogue\, exchange\, and everyday presence.

SUMMARY:Origin of Desire: Japanese Artist Mari Ito’s First Solo Exhibition in India
DESCRIPTION:Origin of Desire\, the first solo exhibition in India by Japanese artist Mari Ito\, presented by GEEK/ART New Delhi\, on view from 24 April to 1t  May 2026 at The Ballroom\, Bikaner House\, New Delhi. \nCurrently based in Barcelona\, Ito presents a body of sculptural works alongside large and small-format paintings that unfold a world of biological extravagance\, surreal flowers with human-like faces\, swelling organic forms\, and luminous colour fields. Rooted in traditional Nihonga techniques\, her practice involves layering pigments\, sumi ink\, and nikawa on Oguni washi\, preserving the rigour of Japanese craftsmanship while expanding its visual language. \nExhibition Details: \nTitle: Origin of Desire\nParticipating artist: Mari Ito\nDates: 24 April – 1 May 2026\nTimings: 11:00 am – 6:30 pm\nVenue: The Ballroom\, Bikaner House\, New Delhi \nMari Ito’s work stages desire as a primal force\, unfolding through whimsical compositions of seeds\, pods\, and cellular rhythms. Her iconography insists on forms that exceed boundaries\, proposing desire as a hybrid\, multi-directional vitality that mutates\, sprouts\, and leaks. Her biomorphic world challenges narratives of restraint and obedience\, bringing forth an interiority shaped by the erotic\, the psychic\, and the cellular. \nHer practice echoes Japanese surrealism and folkloric animism while engaging with post-war avant-garde tendencies to rupture the boundaries of the body. Distinctly feminist in its approach\, her work reclaims the floral and the decorative as sites of mutation and political charge. \nThis exhibition also marks an important moment for GEEK/ART\, as it launches its independent programming in India\, bringing new artistic voices from across Asia into conversation with local audiences.

SUMMARY:Art Vanguards of Rajasthan – Rasa Panchaka
DESCRIPTION:Art Vanguards of Rajasthan – Rasa Panchaka – The art exhibition brings together five artists—Shail Choyal\, Ankit Patel\, Purna Chandra Kishan\, Dharmendra Rathore\, and Chandra Shekhar Sain—whose works reflect different perspectives rooted in tradition\, memory\, and lived experience. The idea of “Rasa Panchaka” draws from five distinct artistic expressions\, each exploring a unique emotional and cultural essence. \nShail Choyal reinterprets the structure and detailing of Rajasthani miniature painting in a contemporary format. Ankit Patel’s sculptures are shaped by memories of rural life\, capturing everyday moments and personal journeys. \nPurna Chandra Kishan’s paintings explore the relationship between Nari and Prakriti\, often presenting them as interconnected forms\, while also reflecting on environmental concerns through calm\, layered landscapes. Dharmendra Rathore’s work draws from mythology and philosophical traditions\, including Buddhist thought\, to create narratives that connect past and present. \nChandra Shekhar Sain works across terracotta and painting\, combining elements of Rajasthani folk traditions with contemporary themes\, focusing on rural life\, culture\, and human emotion. Together\, the exhibition presents a mix of practices that engage with tradition while responding to contemporary ideas. \nArt Vanguards of Rajasthan – Rasa Panchaka\, curated by Nikhat Ansari\, will be held from 24th to 30th April 2026 at the Visual Art Gallery\, India Habitat Centre\, New Delhi. The exhibition opens on 24th April at 5:00 PM and will remain on view daily from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

SUMMARY:Mapped by Tide and Time-a solo exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Mapped by Tide and Time\, a solo exhibition of works by Vishakha Apte\, curated by Ina Puri. The exhibition will first be presented at Jehangir Art Gallery\, Mumbai from 14th to 20th April 2026\, and will subsequently travel to Gallery Ragini\, New Delhi\, where it will be on view from 25th April to 30th May 2026. \nBringing together over three decades of practice\, the exhibition spans painting\, printmaking\, paper constructions\, and ceramics\, offering a comprehensive view of Apte’s deeply process-led and material-driven approach. Her work resists spectacle\, instead unfolding as a quiet yet powerful meditation on presence\, tactility\, and the conditions of being. Moving from early printmaking into layered surfaces and sculptural forms\, and later into ceramics\, her practice reflects an evolving engagement with material\, where form is discovered rather than imposed. \nCurated by Ina Puri\, the exhibition traces a significant trajectory within Apte’s oeuvre—from fragmented figuration and solitary forms to works that suggest connection\, growth\, and spatial presence. Rooted in lived experience and shaped by an intimacy with materials\, her works invite a slower\, more attentive encounter. \nExhibition Details:\nMapped by Tide and Time\nA Solo Exhibition by Vishakha Apte\nCurated by Ina Puri \nNew Delhi\nGallery Ragini\, Lado Sarai\n25th April – 30th May 2026 \nMap:
