SUMMARY:Curious Charms: The Magic of Aquarelle
DESCRIPTION:Curious Charms: The Magic of Aquarelle is a Solo exhibition by Dr. Sushma Mahajan Curated by Dr. Alka Pande \nUnique Creation and Arts Gallery presents the first solo exhibition of well-known radiologist Dr. Sushma Mahajan in Delhi\, titled ‘Curious Charms ~ The Magic of Aquarelle’ from 1st to 4th April 2023 at the Visual Arts Gallery\, New Delhi. The exhibition\, curated by Dr. Alka Pande\, attempts to view the beauty of flora and fauna through the creative imagination of the artist with a difference. \nA self-taught artist\, Dr. Mahajan\, chose the more difficult medium of watercolors to depict her well-defined artistic expressions. The Curious Charms ~ The Magic of Aquarelle series captures a wide spectrum of her imagination through her eyes\, ranging from animals to birds to architecture to still art. \nCurator Dr. Alka Pande says\, “Dr. Mahajan is a trained radiologist and\, through her passion as a painter\, looks at her environment through her own personal lens. She dives into the landscape and paints the most evocative landscapes where birds and mammals are placed in the human environment. She proves that you don’t have to be a trained artist to paint evocative pictures.” \nFlowers and animals have always been part of the natural habitat of the human environment. The artist has a unique way of viewing the artworks and immerses into the inner worlds of the animals she paints. She brings out the ferocious gaze of a big cat and the tender cuteness of a squirrel with the same ease. Her animals speak with her eloquently crafted eyes; this is something that sets her body of work apart and lends it a unique appeal. The beautiful bond that humans share with animals also inspires the artist’s brushwork. \n“Creativity takes courage. And it is all the more daunting when you are foraging in seemingly alien waters. Being a radiologist by profession\, my aspirations were very basic when I initially started to dabble in watercolors a few years ago. However\, it has evolved into an abiding passion now. Painting is a sort of catharsis for me. My art is vibrant and colorful\, it heals the soul from the hits of everyday life. All in all\, painting has become such a powerfully liberating force in my life.” Dr. Sushma Mahajan \n1st to 4th April 2023 \n11 am to 7 pm \nVisual Arts Gallery\,  India Habitat Centre\, New Delhi

SUMMARY:Fresh Perspectives In Art - A Talk At KNMA
DESCRIPTION:A conversation focusing on fresh perspectives in art between artist Birender Yadav and curator V Divakar. \nWhere does contemporary begin and where does it end? New Practices\, as the name suggests\, explores the dynamic terrain of contemporary art\, art-making and criticism through open public dialogue and articulation. With slow iterations\, the series imagines itself as a river of processing thoughts and counter thoughts resonating with the times and its tribulations. Artists\, curators\, and critics from diverse areas come together to brew the chai / tea of their ideas and processes while they watch the river of conversation meander and flow around and beyond them. Hence\, question and answer session with the listeners and viewers forms an integral part of each conversation. \nBirender Yadav is a multi-disciplinary artist who experiments with various media including painting\, sculpture\, photography\, installation\, etching\, found objects and man-made objects\, as well as live documenting. Influenced by his early experiences as the son of a blacksmith working in a coal mine\, his works often draw attention to the issues of class hierarchies and the plight of the working class. Using extracted materials from mundane objects\, Yadav explores the complexities of class and identity while performing a commentary on power structures extant in contemporary socio-political structures. Birender Kumar Yadav earned a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from Banaras Hindu University and a Masters in Fine Arts specializing in Painting from the College of Arts\, New Delhi in 2015. He lives and works in New Delhi. \nV. Divakar is a Baroda-based curator and art critic. He also edits a bi-monthly called The Baroda Pamphlet\, on art and culture. Besides that\, he manages an experimental art collective called ‘Knots’ in Baroda. His other interests include films\, music\, books and star gazing. He is also associated with the Conflictorium in Ahmedabad\, he curates exhibitions on various themes and facilitates the artist-in-residency programmes. \nThe series is curated by Neha Tickoo and Madhurima Chaudhuri

SUMMARY:Art Exhibition - "Pravaah – A Journey"
DESCRIPTION:Art Tree initiative ‘Pravaah – A Journey’ to explore Water through various art forms \n\n9 Artists in 5 different Art forms from across the country come together for Pravaah\nFive Art Forms at Pravaah -Madhubani Painting\, Pattachitra\, Phad\, Sanjhi and Warli\n\nThe artworks will be on display from 17th – 21st August at the Open Palm Court\, India Habitat Centre\, New Delhi from 11 am -7 pm. The distinguished artists displaying their rare works will be Manisha Jha and Manoj Choudhary in Madhubani; Purna Chandra Moharana and Tanmay Mahapatra in Pattachitra; Prakash Joshi in Phad; Mohan Verma and Ashutosh Verma in Sanjhi; and Anil Wangad and Sarita Vanjara in Warli. \nWater symbolizes purity and cleansing; and this is more apparent in historical\, ancient\, and renaissance pieces of art. The depiction of water is universal in almost every form of art worldwide. In both literature and art\, water is considered the universal symbol for change – it is forever flowing\, and can take any course.\nPravaah too will emphasize and underline the dynamic energy that water signifies and epitomizes. \nWidely acknowledged for its traditional art forms and crafts\, Indian folk art has been handed down from one generation to the next without altering its cultural and traditional vibrancy. Each region is known for its own unique form of folk art and has its distinctive style. The Indian folk arts are very ethnic\, simple\, yet vibrant\, and colourful to talk about the rich heritage of the land. Some of the most talked about Indian folk traditions have had cultural and religious influences on their way to modern times\, and continue to generate immense curiosity and interest among the connoisseurs of the world of art. The five art forms that will be on display too have enjoyed tremendous patronage both in the domestic and international market. This exhibition is the perfect way to showcase their works together to encapsulate the spirit of theme on water. It will give visitors the chance to experience more of the rich practices that have stood the test of time and form our splendid heritage.
