SUMMARY:The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time - An Aadyam Play
DESCRIPTION:Aadyam Theatre’s Seventh Season Kicks off in Delhi with Atul Kumar’s Captivating Drama ‘The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time’ \nAadyam Theatre\, a pioneering theatre initiative by Aditya Birla to preserve the celebrated art form of theatre\, is back with classic live storytelling. The inception of the seventh season in Mumbai saw a great response from theatregoers\, and now the immersive theatre experience is coming to Delhi. The capital city has been bustling with a rich theatre scene for the longest time and now will witness the return of Aadyam Theatre’s 7th season with Atul Kumar’s adaptation of Mark Haddon’s acclaimed work ‘The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.’ The latest showcase will be a three-show weekend at the Kamani Auditorium on 11th and 12th January 2025. \n \nAtul Kumar\, a renowned theatre personality\, reimagines Mark Haddon’s acclaimed work in an Indian setting. Originally adapted for stage by Simon Stephens\, the play has won several accolades\, including Olivier Awards and Tony Awards. \nThe story delves into the life of Christopher Bonne\, a fifteen-year-old child who is on a mission to unearth the truth about Mrs. Pinto’s dog’s death. It is an exploratory tale of not just solving this mystery of the wicked act but also knowing about Christopher’s world that he inhabits and how he interacts with this world around and within. \nAtul Kumar\, the renowned actor and theatre director\, has aced many art forms and dabbled into different languages\, showcasing a vivid repertoire both in India and abroad. He has also been running The Company Theatre\, which produced Piya Behrupiya\, an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night for the 2012 World Shakespeare Festival. \nWith this latest adaptation\, Atul is bringing his signature flair of immersive storytelling by setting the story in the bylanes of Bandra. The play is an atypical thriller\, where\, as the play unfolds\, it delves into the deeper questions of what is accepted as normal. It ploughs beyond the surface level\, digging deeper into the complexities of human lives and discovering some unpleasant truths from the perspective of a teenager. Atul will immerse the audience with stunning projections\, captivating physical movements\, and an electrifying soundtrack. \nAdditionally\, the production boasts of an exceptional ensemble cast including renowned names like Dheer Hira (Jigra\, Sardar Uddham Singh) in the lead role. Jaimini Pathak (Scam 1992\, TVF Pitchers\, Hush Hush\, Scoop)\, Dheer Hira (Jigra\, Sardar Uddham Singh)\, Dilnaz Irani (Sukhee\, Heroine\, Sense 8)\, Shivani Tanksale (Talaash\, The Dirty Picture\, 24)\, Salone Mehta (The Archies\, Dear Zindagi\, Dahaad)\, Harssh Singh (Special Ops\, Raman Raghav 2.0\, Rocket Boys)\, Vidushi Chadha (Deep Water\, How Do You Fall Out of Love With Country Music? HIS Period)\, and Abhay Kaul (The Open Couple) will be also seen in prominent roles. \nThrough each season\, Aadyam Theatre has\, time and again\, pushed the artistic boundaries by staging thought-provoking plays and platforming diverse voices in the Indian theatre scene. This season features five distinct plays\, each offering a unique story and vision\, showcasing a rich diversity of themes and perspectives\, running through the year till September 2025. \nBook your tickets for ‘The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time’ on Insiders. SUMMARY:Chakravyuh - Nitish Bharadwaj Returns as Krishna
DESCRIPTION:Returning to the bustling city of Delhi\, The Films and Theatre Society presents their highly acclaimed production\, “Chakravyuh\,” graced by the presence of Nitish Bharadwaj\, the indelible embodiment of Lord Krishna from B. R. Chopra’s Mahabharata\, captivating audiences with his unforgettable portrayal. \nThis spellbinding spectacle has already graced the stage nearly a hundred times\, captivating audiences in diverse corners of our nation. It has also earned its rightful place in esteemed festivals\, basking in the limelight of well-deserved recognition. \n \nThis play unfolds the narrative of the momentous thirteenth day in the grand tapestry of the Mahabharata’s great battle. It transcends the mere essence of “Chakravyuh” as a war-craft\, ascending to the realm of profound philosophy. Delving into the intricacies of Abhimanyu’s demise within the labyrinthine formation\, it unveils a multitude of inquiries\, myths\, ideologies\, and convictions spanning diverse planes of existence. Crafted in the ethereal verses\, this opus serves as a conduit between epochs\, deftly interweaving history and the present while tethering them to timeless concepts of “Karma” and “Dharma”. Atul Satya Koushik\, renowned across India for his original theatrical creations and mesmerizing visual tapestries\, has sculpted and helmed this production in a transformative avatar. \n\nEnchanting the audience\, the play unfolds the Mahabharata saga through Krishna’s omniscient gaze. The divine Krishna emerges\, dissolving all doubts\, myths\, and misunderstandings that entangle the ensemble. Bestowing upon them the eternal wisdom of Karma\, he unveils a profound truth: none can escape their respective Chakravyuhs\, for life itself is naught but an intricate maze. Our duty lies in combatting the Chakravyuh\, and liberation from its confines is the outcome of our Karma\, beyond our mortal dominion. \nAtul Satya Koushik\, Writer\, and Director says\, “Indian history has always intrigued me and I have always tried to interpret the history in a manner that gives a new meaning to the episodes that have been told to us a myriad of times before. The mere idea of a sixteen-year-old young fighter\, who bears on his shoulder the name and legacy of the most acclaimed archer of all times\, fighting alone with seven of the greatest warriors who ever fought on this earth undoubtedly gave me goosebumps. But I wanted to bring out more from this story. I have tried to tell\, through Krishna\, why to mourn the fact that “Abhimanyu” could not make his way out of the “Chakravyuh” when no one else has ever been able to do so. This whole life is a “Chakravyuh”\, those seven warriors were seven evils within us and we all are “Abhimanyu” who have to fight them throughout our lives.”\nActor Nitish Bharadwaj says\, “Delhi audience has always been very critical yet loving and it is a joy indeed to return to Delhi and perform for them after Covid. I believe that with whatever the world has seen during these difficult years of the pandemic\, the words and message of Lord Krishna in this play will connect all the more with the audience. I look forward to my Delhi show.” \nWritten and directed by: Atul Satya Koushik\nPlay Date & Time: 18th June 2023 (Sunday) – 07:00 pm \nThere are two shows – one at 4:00 pm and one at 7:00 pm \nPlay Venue: Kamani Auditorium\, Mandi House\, Delhi\nEntry: By tickets only\nTickets: Rs. 600 to 3\,000/- available online on bookmyshow.com.
