SUMMARY:Aadyam Theatre 2023
DESCRIPTION:Aadyam Theatre is in its 5th year of productions and has already staged several plays in Delhi. \n\n\n\nAadyam is the pioneer theatre initiative in India that has been supporting the art form for the past 5 years. With over 25 productions under the Aadyam banner\, Aadyam believes in celebrating the power of theatre and all it has to offer by providing a platform where the cultivation of new plays is not accepted but highly encouraged. Through unique experiences and even more unique plays\, Aadyam aims to take theatre to the masses. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nHayavadana \nGirish Karnad’s HAYAVADANA is a modern classic. When it burst onto the Indian stage in the 1970s\, it was an immediate success with audiences and critics alike. Using traditional Indian theatre techniques such as masks and a sutradhar (narrator)\, the play examines modern questions of identity and self-hood. There is a horse-headed man who longs to be complete\, there is a young woman who mixes up the heads of her lover and her husband\, and there is a child who cannot speak — the stories intertwine and illuminate each other as they ask the most important of all human questions: who am I? \nNeelam Man Singh\, with her innovative narrative techniques and her powerful stagecraft enriched by both modernity and tradition\, gives us Hayavadana anew. This is a chance to see one of our most imaginative theatre makers present one of our most important playwrights in a theatrical masterpiece that combines myth and folk tale\, song and speech\, humor and pathos\, love and jealousy\, hope and despair. The experience of watching a great play created by a great director will be unforgettable. Translated from the Kannada original by B V Karanth \nBaaghi Albele \nJohny & Minnie Makhija\, husband\, and wife are famous actors from a renowned theatre company in Ludhiana. During a performance of Hamlet\, a young and handsome soldier of an underground rebel organization B.O.L (Sukhwinder Singh) leaves just as Johny begins the soliloquy\, “to be or not to be” leaving Johny in a rage and Minnie with a new secret admirer. A short time later\, following the prohibition orders of the government\, all performances are stopped\, theatres are closed and so begins the chaos that ensues with the artists being forced to hide underground while also plotting a movement to bring back theatre and live performances. This masterpiece pairs comic absurdity with grim reality. Within the dismal setting of censorships and general crackdowns on comedians\, journalists\, writers\, and artists\, absolutely all stakeholders participate in this comedy. Directed by Atul Kumar An adaptation of Nick Whitby’s ‘To Be Or Not To Be\, A play based on the motion picture by Ernst Lubitsch \nAs Bees In Honey Drown \nAs Bees In Honey Drown Written by Douglas Carter Beane Adapted by Akarsh Khurana Directed by Anahita Oberoi “AS BEES IN HONEY DROWN is presented by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service\, Inc.\, New York.” \n“As Bees in Honey Drown is a smart and witty representation of the greed for fame\, glamour\, and the good life. A fast-paced entertainer\, set in an age that most often chooses image over substance – like taking to gleaming golden honey. Fame like honey\, can give one a rush of sweet pleasure\, while it can also drown one with its stickiness.” \nAadyam Theatre\, an Aditya Birla Group initiative\, presents its latest production\, ‘As Bees In Honey Drown’\, by Douglas Carter Beane\, Directed by Anahita Uberoi – a hilarious and thought-provoking satire on contemporary culture. It promises to tickle your funny bone while exploring themes of deceit\, betrayal\, artistic ambition\, and the power of illusion. \nThe play follows the story of almost famous author Dhruv who captures the attention of Alexa – a popular socialist who has made the world of celebrity her home. Alexa is a record producer and a film agent\, she seems to have connections to everyone\, and she offers Dhruv a handsome fee to write a screenplay of her life story. What follows are designer suits\, the best hotels\, and all the accouterments of fame. Come watch as Dhruv and Alexa take us through the glamour and glitz of the good life. \n15 April 7:30 pm \n16 April 2023 4:30 pm and 7:30 pm

SUMMARY:An Evening With Chekov
DESCRIPTION:In the biting cold winter of Delhi\, the warmth of Chekov is calling you. Towering theatre personalities like SUNIT TANDON\, SOHAILA KAPUR\, VISHAAL SETHIA\, ARTI NAYAR\, SONALI SHARMA\, AND TARIQUE HASSAN\, will be part of an ‘Evening With Chekov’ consisting of two short comedies by the 19th-century Russian playwright\, Anton Chekov. The Proposal and The Bear are costume dramas on the art (or otherwise!) of courtship. TARIQUE HASSAN will be a special delight to watch. He is a well-trained theatre actor in method acting from The Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute New York. He is from Delhi\, currently working under Katyayani Theatre with Sohaila Kapur. The Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute New York has trained many popular Hollywood actors like Marilyn Monroe\, Lady Gaga\, Angelina Jolie\, Scarlett Johansson\, Alec Baldwin\, Matt Dillon\, Christoph Waltz\, Chris Evans\, etc. Bollywood actors like Ranbir Kapoor\, Riteish Deshmukh\, and Rahul Khanna are also trained in this prestigious institute. \nTARIQUE HASSAN is not only a well-trained actor but a theatre producer as well. He is coming up with a play called AN EVENING WITH CHEKOV\, The play is written by famous Russian playwriter Anton Chekov and directed by SOHAILA KAPUR. \nThe show will be held at the India habitat centre on the 14th of January. \nThe Proposal is a one-act farce by Anton Chekhov\, written in 1888–1889 and first performed in 1890. It is a fast-paced play of dialogue-based action and situational humour. A young man Lomov comes to propose to his neighbour Natalya but they both keep on fighting about anything under the sky. The show is a delight to watch as through this play\, Chekhov exposes the fakeness of the world and tries to show how superficial people are these days. Rather than bonding on emotions in relationships\, people simply connect due to wealth and money. \n‘The Bear’ is a one-act comedic play written by Russian author Anton Chekhov. The play was originally dedicated to Nikolai Nikolaevich Solovtsov\, Chekhov’s boyhood friend and director/actor who first played the character Smirnov. The Bear’s comedy derives from the characters’ lack of self-knowledge. The widow Popova fancies herself inconsolably bereaved\, while Smirnov considers himself a misogynist. They are both stock examples of alazons: figures made ludicrous by pretending to be more than they actually are. \nTicket available at Bookmyshow.com \n– Delhi will witness ‘An Evening With Chekov’ consisting of two short comedies by the 19th-century Russian playwright\, Anton Chekov. \n– The show will be held at the India habitat centre\, Delhi on the 14th of January 2023\, at 7:30 PM
