The exhibition addresses their nuanced politics of being and becoming\, their relationship with the natural world\, and how they embody and efface the abstraction of existence. The works engage with subjects such as rocks\, sand\, plants\, trees\, light\, and animals\, reflecting on both human and non-human experiences. The exhibition is structured around three conceptual pathways: \n\nTo think like a mountain\nSurvival as revival\nClearing\n\nThese pathways unfold across a slow\, immersive experience that takes visitors through time\, space\, and environmental reflection. Neha Choksi‘s works focus on geological changes. At the same time\, Simryn Gill’s documentation of Port Dickson and Hajra Waheed’s exploration of the night sky and Kashmir creates an emotional horizon for the exhibition. \nAt the heart of The Elemental You is “The Working Space\,” featuring special projects by Vijai Maia Patchineelam and Ranjana Dave\, alongside an Artists’ Roundtable with rotating interventions. Curated by Raffael Dedo Gadebusch\, head of the Museum für Asiatische Kunst\, Berlin\, the exhibition marks the beginning of a promising partnership between KNMA and the Asian Art Museum Berlin. \nThis exhibition\, held in honor of Eckart Muthesius’ 120th birth anniversary\, revisits the creation of India’s first modernist edifice\, Manik Bagh (translated as “jewel garden”). Commissioned by Maharaja Yeshwant Rao Holkar II and completed by Muthesius in 1933\, Manik Bagh stands as an iconic representation of modern architecture\, blending elegant design principles with holistic elements. The palace’s interiors were designed with contemporary masterpieces\, including Constantin Brancusi’s celebrated sculpture Bird in Space. This visionary project signified the early days of international modernism and is regarded as one of the most innovative architectural syntheses in Asia. \nThe exhibition showcases rare\, never-before-seen photographs of Manik Bagh\, including works by Man Ray\, Emil Leitner\, and Eckart Muthesius himself. Her application of paint and texture evokes the surface of alien landscapes\, with fluid\, undulating forms that challenge categorization.
