SUMMARY:KNMA Noida Presents PURVAEE - Evoking Pedagogic Lineages
DESCRIPTION:With great pleasure\, the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art is presenting an exhibition that looks back at a slice of the history of art education in the country featuring rarely seen and historically significant pieces from its collection! \nPurvaee\, the eastern wind\, investigates pathways of creative sensibility transmission and modes of visual representation among the first generations of teachers in two pioneering art institutions in the country\, through diverse chronological orbiting. The core narrative of this show is derived from the masters’ practices\, which converse with the artistic practices of subsequent generations. It reflects on the methods of institutional inducement\, which allowed their acolytes to develop a wide range of artistic sensitivity. Many of these students have gone on to make important contributions to the field of modern and contemporary art. \nKala Bhavana (Estd.1919) in Santiniketan and the Faculty of Fine Arts (Estd. 1950) in Baroda significantly influenced holistic art approaches in India. Artist-pedagogue Nandalal Bose (1882-1966)\, influenced by Gandhian ideas\, believed in artisanal production and a close artist-viewer connection to enhance sensitivities and quality. The importance of comprehending and determining subject matter was generated and proliferated from a principled engagement in Santiniketan by Bose. Mentored by Abanindranath Tagore\, he carried forward and imparted a stylistic lineage that was a synthesis of references drawn from Ajanta murals\, Indian miniatures\, to Far-Eastern linear intonations in ink washes. \n \nBose’s belief in empathetic observation that enlivens the inner nature of objects on pictorial surface\,a prevision sustained by his protégé\, Benode Behari Mukherjee (1904 – 1980) and Ramkinkar Baij (1906- 1980). Such teachings through creative evolution were later found in succeeding generations of artists\, including Sankho Chaudhuri (1916 – 2006)\, KG Subramanyan (1924- 2016)\, Krishna Reddy (1925 – 2018)\, Sarbari Roy Choudhury (1933- 2012) and A Ramachandran (1935- 2024) who traversed the country and beyond as educators and practitioners. Selected works constituting stylistic\, formalistic\, observational\, and methodological criteria from their sprawling practices strike a dialogue with the works of their students Mrinalini Mukherjee (1949 – 2015)\, Pushpamala N. (1956)\, KP Krishnakumar (1958 -1989)\, Vasudevan Akkitham (1958)\, Bhagat Singh (1958) and Manisha Gera Baswani (1967). \nThe exhibition displays works produced between the 1940s and the 2000s\, with one exceptional and renowned work ‘Sati’ a Japanese woodblock print by Nandalal Bose from the early 20th century\, which was critically acclaimed. It will explore the instructive and stylistic transformations that are observed in the works of subsequent generations of artists. Exploring subjectivities and singular representations while focusing on a small area dedicated to the practices of these fourteen artists\, the exhibition will participate in a conversation that is profound and broad at the same time. It will study representational phrases and the impressions that occur as styles\, shapes\, and annexations in a non-sequential manner\, using the masters’ structural drawings as a teaching tool to make connections between similarities and contrasts. With more than 200 artworks from the museum collection\, unfolding its span and richness the exhibition will investigate associations between individual practices\, inter-generational creative dialogues\, and institutional peculiarities.

DESCRIPTION:Rajasthan Tourism promotes Darshanam\nA group exhibition of Pichhwai Art works curated by Raghukul Trust\nSeptember 7th to 11th\, 2024\, 10 am till 7 pm\, Bikaner House\, New Delhi \nRaghukul Trust\, a Jaipur-based NGO Promoting Living Traditions Is organizing an exhibition of Pichwais Paintings – artworks from heritage artists dedicated to one of the most ancient art forms of Rajasthan which in today’s world of modern and abstract art is struggling to stay in the market. \n“Darshanam by Raghukul Trust” brings to the fore the Pichhwai Artworks of over 30 artists from heritage communities. “The Trust aims to promote the languishing art\, especially the artists who are not in the mainstream. It is very critical to keep this artwork alive”\, says Sadhna Garg\, Chairperson\, of Raghukul Trust.  The exhibition is powered by Darshanam\, a conglomerate of artists formed by Virendra Bansal\, one of the surviving old artists in Pichhwai Art who is credited for bringing Pichhwai art from Nathdwara to Jaipur and introducing Govind Dev Ji in Pichhwais. \nSupported by the Department of Tourism\, Government of Rajasthan\, 78 artworks from artists who have been carrying on this tradition from father to son for generations will be showcased from 7 to 11 September at the venue partner\, The Bikaner House\, New Delhi. Paintings by Virendra Bansal will also be part of the exhibition. \nSimultaneously with the exhibition\, a FREE takeaway Pichhwai Art workshop will be conducted. Students from various schools\, guests\, and Walk-ins will be allowed to paint and take their artwork for free. The objective is to catch them young and teach them this art. Not just a holy book\, it is one of the greatest works of literature that also includes 14 other Sants of the Bhakti tradition like Kabir. Among them\, Baba Farid is the only Muslim of the Chishti Sufi silsila. Bulleh Shah and Shah Husayn hugely popularised by Nusrat Fateh Ali and Abida Parveen composed in Panjabi and called themselves Faqirs\, not beggars but humble disciples of their particular Murshid/Guru. SUMMARY:Offering - Chameli Ramachandran's Solo Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Vadehra Art Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition of artworks by artist Chameli Ramachandran. Offering is a presentation of watercolour paintings taken from the artist’s oeuvre from around a decade ago. The show will open at our modern art gallery space on 27 August 2024 and will remain on view until 16 September 2024. \nChameli Ramachandran nurtures an immersive and entrancing relationship with nature\, which strikes as an impulse to paint the skeletal and spiritual structures of different varieties of flowers\, clusters of shrubbery\, and the canopies of trees over and over again. In her nature studies\, Chameli expands the symbolic vocabulary of these pastoral elements and their parts – through a long list of protagonists\, including various kinds of lilies\, chrysanthemums\, carnations\, orchids\, hibiscus\, silk cotton\, and crotons among others – by viewing them as metaphors for life and death. She notes their sudden budding or blooming as a celebratory arrival of beauty\, grace\, and fragrance\, only to wilt shortly thereafter. The physiological transformations in their existence seem to mimic our own cycle of life\, which is entrenched in an inevitable decay yet remains guided by the promise of consistent regeneration. The dramatic personae she accords to these nature studies varies in curiosity and context\, though they all retain a benign loveliness and connect a viewer – through meditation\, ecstasy\, and melancholy – to the view they hold.
