SUMMARY:Mirror/Maze: Echoes of Song\, Space and Spectre
DESCRIPTION:Kiran Nadar Museum of Art presents a new exhibition titled ‘Mirror/Maze: echoes of song\, space and spectre’ that brings together works of 21 artists from the Museum’s diverse collection. The show opened to public on Thursday\, October 27\, and will be on display at KNMA\, Saket till December 25\, 2023 \nThis exhibition owes its stimulus to artists and the provocations they present through their distinctive forms of practice\, initiating a re-thinking about art and its presence in our lives. Their self-willed journeys draw us into the worlds they create through ‘affect states’ of sound and silence\, meditation and labour\, stillness and action\, emptiness\, and fullness; at times\, taking us to the edge. Disrupting the sense of space/place\, de-stabilising the notion of a fixed image\, accelerating and slowing down the experience of time\, they raise our consciousness towards the complicatedness of every day along with the lingering fear of the unknown. \nCurated by Roobina Karode (Director and Chief Curator\, KNMA) with Avijna Bhattacharya\, Debashree Banerjee\, Madhurima Chaudhuri\, and Agastaya Thapa\, the exhibition allows the viewers to engage a wide spectrum of artistic experiences\, from drawing\, paintings and sculptures to digital presences\, AI and computer-generated images and computer coded hyper realities. \nParticipating artists \nAnish Kapoor|Arun Dev |Bikash Bhattachariee | Dayanita Singh | Dhruv Malhotra | Gauri Gill | GR Iranna| Harshit Agrawal | Jayashree Chakravarty | Marina Abramovié | Martha Fiennes | Neha Choksi |Nikhil Chopra | Ranbir Kaleka | Ragib Shaw | Rashid Rana | Rohini Devasher | Sheba Chhachhi |Shezad Dawood |Sonia Khurana | Subodh Gupta \nDate: October 27\, 2023 – December 25\, 2023\nVenue: KNMA\, Saket\nTiming: 10:30 A.M – 6:30 P.M\nThe museum is closed on Monday and all public holidays\nAdmission to exhibitions is free

SUMMARY:Sculpted Sagas a solo show by the artist Sakti Burman
DESCRIPTION:Sculpted Sagas\nUnveiling new body of worksThe show will be on view in the gallery till 31st October 2023\nOnline Exhibition Dates: 31st October 2023 – 15th December 2023\nThe exhibition can be visited online at https://www.artalivegallery.com/ \nArt Alive Gallery brings to you Sculpted Sagas\, a solo show unveiling a new body of sculptural work by the renowned artist\, Sakti Burman. \nA theatrical aura encompasses Sakti Burman’s sculptures as the master artist creates a fantasy world of his own stemming from mythology\, history\, poetic fervor\, and experience. A renowned artist\, Burman explores the depths of his oeuvre\, rendered in a dream-like syncretic style creating a confluence of Indian and European cultures that have enriched his artistic practice over the years. \nArtists have always experimented with multiple mediums; quite often\, their distinguished motifs find recluse in the three dimensional mode of rendition\, the sculpture\, crafted in various mediums including bronze\, fiberglass\, and mixed media among others. Sculpted Sagas by Sakti Burman is an extension of his vast oeuvre characterized by intricate details and a deep fascination for the human and mythological form. \nHis sculptural oeuvre is an exploration of the various motifs that define his body of work composed of elements and characters borrowed from traditional Indian mythologies such as Shiva or Krishna or the saga of Samudra Manthan which explains the origin of the elixir of eternal life re-interpreted in a European fashion exhibiting Burman’s unique visual language. Tales of biblical nature like Noah’s Ark are juxtaposed with the eternal source of Shakti\, goddess Durga depicted in the mother goddess role to Ganesha exuding a dreamlike quality. Burman’s Indian heritage along with his experience in France is a rich wellspring of inspiration for him with figures of the epics featuring in his compositions rendered with a contemporary sensibility\, breathing new life into ancient legends. \nImbued with fantastical elements\, which add surrealist touches to his work\, Sculpted Sagas unveils a new body of work\, a set of relief sculptures created by Sakti Burman showcasing his artistic resplendence. The valour of Durga finds solace in the subtle and stylized rendition of the goddess. In all his relief works\, Burman exhibits a vibrant interplay of distinct cultures choosing to juxtapose elements from all creating an invigorating mise-en-scene of his mystical universe. Accompanying the relief works are free-standing sculptures\, the visual tropes of Ganesha\, Krishna\, and Shiva-Parvati among many others. \nSakti Burman’s art is an expression that captures multiplicities of time and place woven into a truly universal visual language. Burman is the creator of this universe which radiates a sense of exuberant joy featuring myriad stories from his rich repository of memories and myths; it is indeed a saga\, which continues as the artist traverses layers of time\, becoming timeless through his art. \nVenue: Art Alive Gallery \n

SUMMARY:Italian Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:Italian Film Screening\nTUESDAYS AT ISTITUTO\nThe Postman (1994)\nDirected by Michael Radford \nThe film is subtitled in English. \nThe year is about 1953 on the southern Italian island of Cala di Sotto. The great Chilean poet Pablo Neruda has been exiled to the island from his homeland for political reasons\, and he takes a lovely villa on a hill overlooking the Mediterranean. The increase in mail causes Mario Ruoppolo\, the son of a poor fisherman who hates fishing\, to be hired as an extra postman to handle the extra load. As the simple post carrier delivers and picks up Neruda’s mail\, the famous poet teaches him about the magic of poetry\, which Mario uses to woo the village beauty\, Beatrice. \nThis simple\, sweet 1994 film had a bittersweet romantic story behind its making: star Troisi postponed needed heart surgery to shoot the film\, and died of a heart attack the day after the picture was completed. \nThe Postman received 4 Oscar nominations (including Best Picture\, Best Actor\, and Best Director)\, 5 nominations at the David di Donatello Awards\, 2 nominations at the BAFTAs\, and 1 nomination at the SAG Awards. \nDate&Timings: Tuesday\, October 17th (Tomorrow!) 6:00 PM (Entry 5:30 PM onwards) \nVenue: Italian Cultural Centre\, Chanakyapuri \n• No registration is required.\n• Please bring a govt-issued ID card.\n• Entry starts at 5:30 PM & closes at 6:10 PM.

SUMMARY:Soulful Sojourn- A Kaleidoscopic Journey Through The Heart & Mind
DESCRIPTION:Soulful Sojourn\, takes connoisseurs on a captivating journey through artworks from three different series- Building Blocks\, Code Un-code and Nature Milange. \nBuilding Blocks\, the first series\, is a collection of landscapes depicting varied topographies and geographical features. From Indian cities to international destinations\, and from urban centres to rural backdrops\, the artworks transport onlookers to a place they have once seen\, and which now remains etched in some distant crevice of their memory. And Anurag achieves this feat without resorting to explicit cues or tell-tale structures. The series\, Code Un-code\, is based around human connections and their underlying emotions. The artist uses vibrant colours and bold images to tell human stories with each artwork. From the need to find joy in the little things that surround us\, to a very contextual take on the impact of technology on our lives\, these artworks are unique in their choice of subject as well as treatment. Nature Milange\, the third series is a quirky take on one of the most harmless and aesthetic offerings of nature – flowers. \nOn view at Gallery-A\, All India Fine Arts & Crafts Society- Rafi Marg\, New Delhi from 14th-19th October 2023

SUMMARY:Solo Art Exhibitions - On Wings & The Devil in the Detail
DESCRIPTION:Two solo exhibitions by artists Juul Kraijer titled\, On Wings and Anita Dube titled\, The Devil in the Detail on view from September 27\, 2023.Both Dube and Kraijer nurture rich oeuvres around the body as site and situation\, using socio-political and philosophical lenses respectively through which to engage with our conditioned physical identifications and negotiations of the body as material and place\, as well as the intuitive manifestations of embodiment\, including our emotions\, consciousness\, and subjectivity\, which fall into a more visceral category. \nOn Wings: \nDutch artist Juul Kraijer’s images seek to upturn our daily logic and rationality in favour of the incredulity and wonder of a world held beyond belief. She documents staged interactions between a model\, often presented androgynously\, and other sentient beings like birds and butterflies that appear in possession of their own consciousness and deportment. On Wings features a suite of photographs\, collages\, drawings\, and a video work. \nThe Devil in the Detail:\nDelhi-based artist Anita Dube’s oeuvre follows the corporeality of our individual and collective bodies\, encapsulated in language\, memory\, history\, and mythology\, by exploring the body as material and consequence\, as possession and agent. Featuring a series of paintings\, photographs\, and sculptures\, The Devil in the Detail leverages Dube’s art historical relationship with text as an embodiment of a contemporary pulse\, inviting viewers to traverse through the over-amplification and noise of desensitized meanings in speaking truth to power with a fresh perspective\, especially considering recent events in post-colonial India\, which has seen a rise in resistance by different interest groups. \nVenue – D-53 Defence Colony\, New Delhi\nExhibition Open – September 27 – October 27\, 2023\nTimings: 10:00 AM – 06:00 PM; Monday – Saturday
