As a contemporary artist\, Kohli draws inspiration from ancient Indian myths\, delving into themes of beauty\, sensuality\, and spirituality. Her artwork celebrates the female form and Shakti\, the feminine cosmic energy that represents the source of all creation and destruction. \nThe exhibition will showcase a diverse assemblage of artworks\, including 15 pieces meticulously embroidered with silk and cotton threads\, beads\, and sequins on untreated canvas cloth. Additionally\, there will be three large paintings adorned with acrylics\, gold\, and silver leaf on canvas\, as well as two mixed-media works combining painting and embroidery. DESCRIPTION:LATITUDE 28 in collaboration with Sakshi Gallery\nPresents\n \nMEMORY TRACE / DAPAAN*(…it is said)\nAnkush Safaya \nConceptual Premise:\nLooking from the bay windows of my studio which is currently on the ninth floor in Baroda\, it seems like the landscape changes every moment I am looking at it. Something very similar to listening to a piece of music or recalling a memory. In this process of looking I establish connections through the observation of the subtle and the nuanced\, confronting the unexpected – a space where the line between the real and the imagined becomes often blurred. \nThings act as triggers for me – ideas that come from my reading and the music I listen to that create spaces of remembrance and memories revisited. It is from here that I gather a data pool of connectives through which I re-establish and re-create for\nmyself. Perhaps it’s a process of looking at myself – both from a perspective of deconstructing a past that holds the imprint of my belonging – as well as imagining via a process of re-assimilation\, a comprehension of life as I am living it. \nAt first glance\, my works breathe stillness. But as the eye trains itself on the picture plane these flat surfaces become activated linear whispers that assume kinetic energies and suggest poetic missives of human experience. My training as an engineer exposed technology to me in a way that made me engage with an abstract world\, wherein circuit boards translated into Mondrian’s paintings\, and jumbled wires became reminiscent of a Jackson Pollock-painted surface. I play with deconstructing\nstructures\, sculptural forms\, mechanisms around me and then reconstruct them in my head as new forms\, keeping balance and rhythm as crucial elements within this exercise. I ideate the concept in a three-dimensional process of thought. \nThis then over time undergoes a series of metamorphic transformations to articulate itself as I desire\, onto a two-dimensional surface. I can best describe (because I find it difficult to put this into words) that there is an osmosis of learning that I arrive at through my work. It leads me to find methodologies of structuring language and choosing material. \nThe optics of illusion that makes two-dimensional lines appear to have movement or suggest a three-dimensional space – where the conjuring of a visual tactility seduces the eye. My work is about the conflict\, as it is about the calm. \nI identify with a politics that regards human life and the dignity of its preservation as important. Many of the works in this exhibition come from texts that I extract from my readings – books that are mostly political and historical – and works of fiction from geographical territories which have narratives of the histories of conflict and turmoil. These texts create a journey back and forth in time\, sometimes a sense of loss and sometimes a sense of connection. The texts I select from larger passages of writing undergo a series of transformations using Morse code as a method to re-write them. I then inscribe these texts through varied ways. Sometimes articulated via the carbon of graphite pencils making nuanced lines on the paper surface or  mechanism of burning the paper using laser – which is fed by instructions via these codes- that then creates burnt marks on paper\, or perforations on these layered sheets of gateway paper which become a metaphor to skin; or the rhythm of layered translucent papers that become a palimpsest that suggests the altered. DESCRIPTION:Modern Art Gallery presents “Landscapes in Flux” \nAn exhibition that brings together twelve contemporary artists hailing from different directions of the country to explore the idea of how landscapes and architectural designs are perceived from an artist’s glasses. \nModern Art Gallery launches its new vertical MAG Contemporary. \nOur vision for MAG Contemporary is guided by our desire to expand our cultural horizons and creative energy to build a collaborative institution that seeks to present art that challenges and inspires while developing a collection of contemporary art. With our inaugural exhibition\, MAG Contemporary brings together twelve artists hailing from different directions of the country to present to you “Landscapes in Flux”; the idea of how landscapes and architectural designs are perceived from an artist’s glasses\, has been a journey that has made us conscious not just of the undefeatable muse within the versatility of our culture\, but also of the art in architecture that psychologically influences and moulds an artist’s perception of the world. \nDiptej Vernekar’s geomorphological exploration of the ever-metamorphosing landscape of his coastal hometown\, along with his keen sense of visual narration\, bring together his collection of artworks in charcoal\, that unveils the truth in the traditional telling of a tale and its eventual retelling. He achieves this by his method of drawing and sweeping parts away\, making patterns that grow\, as if by themselves\, into these intense drawings. \nJignesh Panchal’s work is a blend of architectural influences from a childhood spent gazing at the marvels of Indian architectonics. His artwork has vibrance and depth at once\, the way he uses the medium says a lot about the intersectional philological perception that is at the epicentre of contemporary art. \nCapturing fleeting moments and a perspective that oscillates between hard facts and his personal musings and fiction\, Madhurjya Dey believes in the power of being pivoted at a distance\, observing the sparse universe of a small town in an introspective manner. Madhurjya’ s experimental methodology is what makes him a forerunner\, he uses photographs as inspiration and draws landscapes that are poetic and urge contemplation. \nMayadhar Sahu is a seasoned artist of substantive premise dealing with multiple mediums and perspectives at once. The creations of Mayadhar Sahu are exquisite extractions of ancient Indian architecture mainly pertaining to the traditional temples and other places of worship. His extensive architectural and archaeological knowledge teams with his signature sense of style and his mastery of craftsmanship leading towards a reticulation of artefacts that are in themselves filled with hints of our creative historical evolution and his personal take on architecture itself. \nA confluence of Indo-Islamic culture can be witnessed in the works of Sachin Pandey who reimagines architectural masterpieces of Hyderabad\, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat\, and brings forth a miniaturist’s take on this very fusion of elements. Sachin Pandey presents us with a revisionist historical perspective of what could have been\, through the convergence of these two cultures in a homogenised manner. \nUntitled\, Tsering Negi\, Lithograph\, 18×22 in \nTsering is a master printmaker and lithographer\, and his strong connect with his mountain roots is evident throughout his practice. Playing the notions of scale and points of view\, his two bodies of work that are part of this exhibition offer alternating vantage points to reflect on issues of ecology and climate change. The birds eye view of landscapes- whether the city lights or the river basin\, sit in contrast with the detailed decorative portraits of women in the Rear Window Series\, both reflecting on that which is at stake of being lost. As one meditates on each of the Rear window portraits\, crucial details begin to emerge\, the floral patterns of the dress blend into skyscraper like cacti\, with a cloud of hovering smoke. Cats hid in plain sight and roses bloom everywhere\, defying science and its logic. He speaks to the absurdity of his life in Delhi\, where he recently moved\, with its alarming air pollution levels which have forced him to bring the outside into the controlled environment of the indoors. \nKeerti Pooja’s etchings refuse to be bordered by gravity and a single perspective; she creates a world of fantasy that allows for deep self-introspection. Building on her sketches of people\, faces and their public lives\, she taxidermies their memories in etchings\, bringing to life an upside-down world\, where people are often defined by their belongings. She engages with the perplexities of city life\, and the chaos that surrounds us\, her repetitive strokes reinforcing the internal conflicts of her subjects. Locating and In Search of\, both are extensions of her fascination by the “bazaar”\, with hawkers\, vendors\, wanderers\, she painstakingly attempts to capture their routines and practices. With keen interest in the rhythm of the daily cycle\, Pooja’s aims to foreground the centrality of these workers in the functioning of city life. \nSteal me from their stares and mute them into night\, Bhaskar Boldoi\, 18×18 in\, Oil on Canvas \nBhaskar’s works are a dive into the mysticism and mysteries expressed that surround us. He borrows from movies\, books\, stage plays\, music and personal experiences to build an image that is brutally vivid yet a metaphorical depiction of our society and the prevalent socio-political and religious landscape of our nation. \nLeena Raj R believes that it is the journey of experiences from childhood to the present that defines the marked space we like to call “Home”. Her definition of “Home” is perhaps a dream beyond any boundaries and thus in constructing this particular space\, we intentionally cast-out and shut the door on a lot of other things. But the “Home” is not just a restricted territory of unified/homogenized identities\, it is also one of synced/unsynced existences resulting from the affection of camaraderie or the contradictions of unfamiliarity within the interactions of its other members. Leena’s painting depicts a “Home” that opens its door to all directions. \nAbdulla. P. A. arrives at such an aesthetic enterprise that is curatorial in attitude. He curates nature as forms of objects ‘found natural’. Objects and machines of human invention sometimes employ a programming that mimics the forms of nature. What happens when the ego-centric human agency in making art is consciously erased for a non-invasive human understanding of nature? One starts re-looking at ‘natural programs’ visible on objects. But putting them in an ‘art context’ is a different exercise. Again\, nature looks like a collectible item\, thus back into a human design. \nA resin artist and a former architect\, Harmans works are primarily experimental\, and resin helps her explore endless visual interpretations Working with amorphous and meandering shapes allow her to break free the structure of set societal and familial norms\, more so for women\, and glide into my own inchoate mould of life. Her practice finds its focal point in the manipulation of resin\, which plays a critical role in the material translation of my vision. This medium allows for speculation and cast into curvilinear pieces\, and thus dispenses a relation between the two and play with the new formations\, as opposed to her journey as an architect where the draft to translation of designed space/edifice was primarily in perpendiculars. \nAware of the vast and rich legacy of Indian Miniature Paintings\, Divya engages with the tradition\, crafting a unique visual language\, and painting on themes that are personal yet universal\, carefully referencing select imagery to convey meaning and symbolism through her work. A surreal beauty emerges in Divya’s work; she proposes something sublime and mature in hue\, expressing balance and flow in pattern repetition\, using colours in ways that are striking yet soothing. In an ongoing series\, she extends her vision to contemplative yet whimsical landscapes that offer circular realms of escape. As a deep-sea diver the circularity of unending underwater life offers her a contemplation on our personal and universal existential attempts\, of ordering the microcosm of our lives with the macrocosm of the universe’s life. This is the essence of her work\, an endeavour to bring positivity\, beauty and joy into this world \nThe sheer nature of the medium and its processes; the physical act of its pouring\, progressively translates into a pour of a sentiment\, a dormant thought\, a latent emotion. This is both figurative\, and literal\, and comes to be defined by the nuances in the physical pour itself. These subtle instructions\, mutating within the boundless fluidity of the material\, manifest into art that\, while free of any definitive or intended formwork\, preserves the essence of that subconscious emotion. \nBy far our most exquisite curation\, it is a homage to the glory of India’s rich architectural history and its myriad of perceptions from a naturalistic lens. DESCRIPTION:‘Very Small Feelings’ is curated by Akansha Rastogi (Senior Curator\, Kiran Nadar Museum of Art) and Diana Campbell (Artistic Director\, Samdani Art Foundation) with Ruxmini Choudhury\, Avik Debdas\, and Swati Kumari. It is co-produced by Kiran Nadar Museum of Art and Samdani Art Foundation. The first iteration of the exhibition was organised at the Dhaka Art Summit (3 to 11 February 2023). It is the first collaboration of this scale and nature between two large arts institutions in India and Bangladesh. \nVery Small Feelings (VSF) is staged through known and forgotten tales\, popular characters\, cartoons and narratives deeply embedded in one’s consciousness. Interested in the spoken word\, and the generative space of orality built through the telling and retelling of stories\, VSF gently holds and hosts the figure of the child and childhood play as a stage. It brings together 42 projects ranging from new commissions\, historical works\, performances\, books\, personal and institutional archives\, artist’s creative prompts turned into installations\, and many landscapes. The inauguration of the book will begin with famous classical singer Sudha Mudgal singing the verses of Kabir\, followed by the speech by Hindi scholar and famous poet Ashok Vajpeyi. After this\, Prof. Dalpat Singh Rajpurohit and Prof. Sudha Ranjani will interact with Purushottam Agrawal on ‘Granthawali’. \n \nKabir Granthwali is a special gift for the literary world \nOn the publication of the revised and updated version of ‘Kabir Granthawali’\, Ashok Maheshwari\, Managing Director of Rajkamal Prakashan said\, “We are feeling very happy to present most authentic text of Kabir’s work in the form of ‘Kabir Granthawali’ to the Hindi literary world. Prof. Purushottam Agrawal has made this Granthawali completely authentic by removing the errors left in the book which was edited by Shyamsundar Das\, which the literary world has been using for almost a century. The authentic text will be available after nearly a century.” Mr. Maheshwari said\,” It is a matter of great pleasure for us that Prof. Purushottam Agrawal\, due to his extraordinary love for Kabir\, took the initiative of revising the texts edited by Shyamsundar Das. I am sure that this will be a special gift to the literary world and the Hindi society. \nThe Most authentic text of Kabir’s works is the Granthawali \nIt is worth mentioning that this book\, which is going to be released on the occasion of 626th Kabir Jayanti\, was edited by Shyamsundar Das\, which was first published in 1928 AD. Shyamsundar Das had prepared this compilation on the basis of centuries-old handwritten copies of Kabir’s works. The place of ‘Bijak’ among the Kabir-Panthis is the same place in academic circles as ‘Kabir Granthawali’ edited by Shyamsundar Das. Despite all the controversies and disagreements\, even today scholars’ resort to ‘Granthawali’ for authentic reading of Kabir’s works. \nThe authentic text will be available after nearly a century \nPurushottam Agarwal said\, “This Granthawali is the basis of Kabir studies. Since 1928\, there have been many editions of this granthawali\, but the text continues to be the same. Many mistakes have been missed due to reading mistakes. At the same time\, the entire lines of some posts have been left out of printing. As soon as I started a systematic study of Kabir\, I also had to grapple with the problems of the text of the Granthawali. I wondered why no scholar paid attention to the revision or correction of this text. Eventually\, I got into this work myself. It is not possible for all readers to compare and match various Kabir collections to the manuscripts in order to access as authentic\, understandable text as possible. Keeping them in mind\, this compilation has been prepared. ” \nThe program will begin with a recital by Sudha Mudgal \nThe launch of ‘Kabir Granthawali’ will start from 06:00 pm on Sunday\, June 04\, with Shubha Mudgal singing the verses of Kabir.
