SUMMARY:Italian Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:Italian Film Screening TUESDAYS AT ISTITUTO\nThe Caiman (2006)\nDirected by Nanni Moretti \nTuesday\, June 20 (Today!)\n6:00 PM (Entry 5:30 PM onwards)\nVenue: Italian Cultural Centre\, Chanakyapuri\nThe film is subtitled in English. \nBankrupt in his professional and personal life\, Z-grade movie producer Bruno Bonomo – responsible in the past for such evocatively-titled offerings as “Mocassin Assassins” and “Maciste vs. Freud” – is finding it impossible to raise the finance for his latest project\, “The Return of Christopher Columbus”. Entangled in debts and his own weaknesses\, struggling with a capsizing marriage and his wayward kids\, Bruno is going under. By chance\, he meets a young director who gives him her script\, The Caiman. \nAt first\, Bruno takes it for a half-hearted thriller; a more careful – if belated – reading reveals a film about Berlusconi. No longer can he stand back. He must set up the production\, find the lead actor\, sort out the financing of the film – all the while trying to pick up the pieces of his broken relationship. Yet in the midst of endless setbacks and problems\, a new spirit is awakened in Bruno Bonomo\, and with it\, the assertion of his dignity. Washed up as he seems\, he finds within himself the desire and the energy to see through to its end this project\, which arrived by chance but which now\, he sees as a matter of life and death. This man\, washed up as he seemed\, finds within himself the energy to pursue the project to its end – what came to Bruno as the result of pure chance has become in his eyes a matter of life and death. \nNo registration is required.\nPlease bring a govt-issued ID card.\nEntry closes at 6:10 PM.

SUMMARY:Chakravyuh - Nitish Bharadwaj Returns as Krishna
DESCRIPTION:Returning to the bustling city of Delhi\, The Films and Theatre Society presents their highly acclaimed production\, “Chakravyuh\,” graced by the presence of Nitish Bharadwaj\, the indelible embodiment of Lord Krishna from B. R. Chopra’s Mahabharata\, captivating audiences with his unforgettable portrayal. \nThis spellbinding spectacle has already graced the stage nearly a hundred times\, captivating audiences in diverse corners of our nation. It has also earned its rightful place in esteemed festivals\, basking in the limelight of well-deserved recognition. \n \nThis play unfolds the narrative of the momentous thirteenth day in the grand tapestry of the Mahabharata’s great battle. It transcends the mere essence of “Chakravyuh” as a war-craft\, ascending to the realm of profound philosophy. Delving into the intricacies of Abhimanyu’s demise within the labyrinthine formation\, it unveils a multitude of inquiries\, myths\, ideologies\, and convictions spanning diverse planes of existence. Crafted in the ethereal verses\, this opus serves as a conduit between epochs\, deftly interweaving history and the present while tethering them to timeless concepts of “Karma” and “Dharma”. Atul Satya Koushik\, renowned across India for his original theatrical creations and mesmerizing visual tapestries\, has sculpted and helmed this production in a transformative avatar. \n\nEnchanting the audience\, the play unfolds the Mahabharata saga through Krishna’s omniscient gaze. The divine Krishna emerges\, dissolving all doubts\, myths\, and misunderstandings that entangle the ensemble. Bestowing upon them the eternal wisdom of Karma\, he unveils a profound truth: none can escape their respective Chakravyuhs\, for life itself is naught but an intricate maze. Our duty lies in combatting the Chakravyuh\, and liberation from its confines is the outcome of our Karma\, beyond our mortal dominion. \nAtul Satya Koushik\, Writer\, and Director says\, “Indian history has always intrigued me and I have always tried to interpret the history in a manner that gives a new meaning to the episodes that have been told to us a myriad of times before. The mere idea of a sixteen-year-old young fighter\, who bears on his shoulder the name and legacy of the most acclaimed archer of all times\, fighting alone with seven of the greatest warriors who ever fought on this earth undoubtedly gave me goosebumps. But I wanted to bring out more from this story. I have tried to tell\, through Krishna\, why to mourn the fact that “Abhimanyu” could not make his way out of the “Chakravyuh” when no one else has ever been able to do so. This whole life is a “Chakravyuh”\, those seven warriors were seven evils within us and we all are “Abhimanyu” who have to fight them throughout our lives.”\nActor Nitish Bharadwaj says\, “Delhi audience has always been very critical yet loving and it is a joy indeed to return to Delhi and perform for them after Covid. I believe that with whatever the world has seen during these difficult years of the pandemic\, the words and message of Lord Krishna in this play will connect all the more with the audience. I look forward to my Delhi show.” \nWritten and directed by: Atul Satya Koushik\nPlay Date & Time: 18th June 2023 (Sunday) – 07:00 pm \nThere are two shows – one at 4:00 pm and one at 7:00 pm \nPlay Venue: Kamani Auditorium\, Mandi House\, Delhi\nEntry: By tickets only\nTickets: Rs. 600 to 3\,000/- available online on bookmyshow.com. Book lovers from more than 40 countries enthusiastically participated in the last online book fair. \nThere will be more books available than before\nThis time\, there will be more books available in the online book fair compared to last year\, including both new and old books. Rajkamal Prakashan Samuh has recently created separate categories for more than 350 newly published books on their website specifically for the online book fair. It includes more than 75 novels\, over 40 story collections\, more than 65 poetry collections\, and more than 25 books on criticism. \nSpend summer vacations with books\nMost of the people in the country are having summer vacations at this time. In the previous year’s online book fair\, we witnessed tremendous enthusiasm among young readers. Apart from book readers from different parts of the country\, we received orders for books from worldwide. This enthusiasm and support have boosted our morale\, and we have decided to organize the online book fair this year as well. SUMMARY:Launch Of Kabir Granthawali
DESCRIPTION:‘Kabir Granthawali’ edited by famous critic and Bhakti-Poetry expert Prof. Purushottam Agrawal will be launched on 04 June 2023 (Sunday) at India International Centre. ‘Kabir Granthawali’ is the most authentic text of Kabir’s work\, published by Rajkamal Prakashan. This Granthawali is the revised and updated form of ‘Kabir Granthawali’ which was edited by Shyamsundar Das about a century ago. The inauguration of the book will begin with famous classical singer Sudha Mudgal singing the verses of Kabir\, followed by the speech by Hindi scholar and famous poet Ashok Vajpeyi. After this\, Prof. Dalpat Singh Rajpurohit and Prof. Sudha Ranjani will interact with Purushottam Agrawal on ‘Granthawali’. \n \nKabir Granthwali is a special gift for the literary world \nOn the publication of the revised and updated version of ‘Kabir Granthawali’\, Ashok Maheshwari\, Managing Director of Rajkamal Prakashan said\, “We are feeling very happy to present most authentic text of Kabir’s work in the form of ‘Kabir Granthawali’ to the Hindi literary world. Prof. Purushottam Agrawal has made this Granthawali completely authentic by removing the errors left in the book which was edited by Shyamsundar Das\, which the literary world has been using for almost a century. The authentic text will be available after nearly a century.” Mr. Maheshwari said\,” It is a matter of great pleasure for us that Prof. Purushottam Agrawal\, due to his extraordinary love for Kabir\, took the initiative of revising the texts edited by Shyamsundar Das. I am sure that this will be a special gift to the literary world and the Hindi society. \nThe Most authentic text of Kabir’s works is the Granthawali \nIt is worth mentioning that this book\, which is going to be released on the occasion of 626th Kabir Jayanti\, was edited by Shyamsundar Das\, which was first published in 1928 AD. Shyamsundar Das had prepared this compilation on the basis of centuries-old handwritten copies of Kabir’s works. The place of ‘Bijak’ among the Kabir-Panthis is the same place in academic circles as ‘Kabir Granthawali’ edited by Shyamsundar Das. Despite all the controversies and disagreements\, even today scholars’ resort to ‘Granthawali’ for authentic reading of Kabir’s works. \nThe authentic text will be available after nearly a century \nPurushottam Agarwal said\, “This Granthawali is the basis of Kabir studies. Since 1928\, there have been many editions of this granthawali\, but the text continues to be the same. Many mistakes have been missed due to reading mistakes. At the same time\, the entire lines of some posts have been left out of printing. As soon as I started a systematic study of Kabir\, I also had to grapple with the problems of the text of the Granthawali. I wondered why no scholar paid attention to the revision or correction of this text. Eventually\, I got into this work myself. It is not possible for all readers to compare and match various Kabir collections to the manuscripts in order to access as authentic\, understandable text as possible. Keeping them in mind\, this compilation has been prepared. ” \nThe program will begin with a recital by Sudha Mudgal \nThe launch of ‘Kabir Granthawali’ will start from 06:00 pm on Sunday\, June 04\, with Shubha Mudgal singing the verses of Kabir. Regarding ‘Kabir Granthawali’\, Shubha Mudgal said- “Purushottam Agarwal ji’s lectures\, articles\, books etc. are no less than a treasure. By adding a new and refined version of ‘Kabir Granthawali’ to this treasure\, Purushottam Agarwal ji is generously giving an opportunity to students like us to read Kabir’s words properly and adapt them to tunes. I have been interested in Kabir singing for a long time and this Granthawali will give me an unprecedented advantage in the study of both singing and literature. “

SUMMARY:Rakugo
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Katsura Sunshine\, a well-known traditional Japanese rakugo artist from Canada\nRakugo storytelling is a 400-year-old Japanese comedic art form. Dating back to the 17th century and originating from the Buddhist tradition\, rakugo experienced its heyday in the Meiji era (1868-1912) when it adopted its current form and left the streets and private apartments for performance venues. The storyteller\, rakugoka\, alone on stage\, kneels on a cushion and does not move from this position throughout the performance. With no backdrop or music\, the rakugo artist uses only his facial expressions\, changes in intonation\, and props to bring humourous stories to life\nKatsura Sunshine studied this traditional and unique form of verbal entertainment in Japan as an apprentice to rakugo master Katsura Bunshi VI\, then Katsura Sanshi for another three years. He is only the second Westerner to become a rakugo master in Japan’s history.\n(Collaboration: The Japan Foundation\, New Delhi) \nProgramme Type Cultural\nVenue C.D. SUMMARY:The Capital City Minstrels presents Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem
DESCRIPTION:For their summer concerts in May\, Delhi’s premier performing choir presents a compelling programme featuring Gabriel Faure’s Requiem and more music for the soul. \nThe Capital City Minstrels (CCM) upcoming summer concerts in May will feature Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem\, a choral masterpiece. The French composer’s seven-section Requiem\, composed between 1887 and 1890\, features some of the most rousing and beautiful melodies he composed and is an unusual version of a Requiem in Western classical music. Traditionally a solemn lament for the departed\, Faure’s composition is noted for its tranquil outlook on the peaceful and fear-free nature of death. Fauré wrote of the work\, “Everything I managed to entertain by way of religious illusion I put into my Requiem\, which moreover is dominated from beginning to end by a very human feeling of faith in eternal rest.” \n \nAlong with this stirring body of work\, CCM will be singing a varied selection of contemporary sacred music\, evocative pieces including a magnificent composition of the Lord’s Prayer in Aramaic “Abun D’bash’Maiyo”\, the tender melody of “You are mine”\, the always popular “You Raise Me Up”\, and more.\nConducted by Nadezda Balyan\, and accompanied by pianist Nise Meruno and cellist Arina Sharma\, CCM concerts always treat audiences to a wide spectrum of choral music\, and this one\, featuring Western classical and contemporary pieces\, continues that journey. \nEvent Name: Gabriel Faure’s Requiem and more music for the Soul – presented by The Capital City Minstrels\nVenue: Kamani Auditorium\, Copernicus Marg\, New Delhi\nDate and time: Friday\, May 19\, 2023 at 7:30 PM\nTickets – available on BookMyShow (Children below 8 years old are not allowed)

SUMMARY:Sultana-Hindi Play
DESCRIPTION:“Sultana.” The play is a poignant and powerful portrayal of a young woman’s struggle for freedom and justice in the face of oppressive societal norms. Written\, directed and Produced by renowned theater artist\, Rama Pandey\, Sultana will be staged on 12th May at 6:00 pm at Shri Ram Centre\, Mandi House. The play is presented by Rama Theater Natya Vidya Sanstha (RATNAV). \n“Sultana.” The play is a poignant and powerful portrayal of a young woman’s struggle for freedom and justice in the face of oppressive societal norms. We believe that the play aligns perfectly with the values of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav\, which celebrates 75 years of India’s independence and its journey towards freedom and equality. The play is set in Rajasthan and tells the story of Sultana\, a young woman who is forced to marry her deceased sister’s husband\, Arif\, against her will. Sultana is only fifteen years old\, and Arif is much older than her. She feels trapped and alone until she seeks refuge in her school teacher\, Uma\, who had also suffered from social pressure in her life. \nTogether\, these two women fight against the oppressive norms of their society\, challenging the patriarchal system that denies women their rights and agency. Through their struggle\, they inspire others to question the status quo and demand change. \nThe play is not just a story about one woman’s struggle\, but a reflection of the larger societal issues of gender inequality\, social pressure\, and the struggle for justice and freedom. It is a powerful reminder of the ongoing fight for equality and human rights that we all face. \nWriter\, producer and director Rama Pandey said\, “Sultana is one of the most challenging plays that I have done .Dealing with the untouched subject of marrying young girls forcefully to their immediate relatives. Those men who have been widowed with children. Hindu and Muslims societies are still following this dark custom. Creating helplessness and despair for the young girls in the village of Rangrez in Rajasthan. But this is also one of my most colourful plays. Full of music and rare Rajasthani folk dances. It is an authentic play that will see the very same Rangrez community from shikar and Jaipur participate in it as well.” \n
