SUMMARY:Aadyam Theatre 2023
DESCRIPTION:Aadyam Theatre is in its 5th year of productions and has already staged several plays in Delhi. \n\n\n\nAadyam is the pioneer theatre initiative in India that has been supporting the art form for the past 5 years. With over 25 productions under the Aadyam banner\, Aadyam believes in celebrating the power of theatre and all it has to offer by providing a platform where the cultivation of new plays is not accepted but highly encouraged. Through unique experiences and even more unique plays\, Aadyam aims to take theatre to the masses. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nHayavadana \nGirish Karnad’s HAYAVADANA is a modern classic. When it burst onto the Indian stage in the 1970s\, it was an immediate success with audiences and critics alike. Using traditional Indian theatre techniques such as masks and a sutradhar (narrator)\, the play examines modern questions of identity and self-hood. There is a horse-headed man who longs to be complete\, there is a young woman who mixes up the heads of her lover and her husband\, and there is a child who cannot speak — the stories intertwine and illuminate each other as they ask the most important of all human questions: who am I? \nNeelam Man Singh\, with her innovative narrative techniques and her powerful stagecraft enriched by both modernity and tradition\, gives us Hayavadana anew. This is a chance to see one of our most imaginative theatre makers present one of our most important playwrights in a theatrical masterpiece that combines myth and folk tale\, song and speech\, humor and pathos\, love and jealousy\, hope and despair. The experience of watching a great play created by a great director will be unforgettable. Translated from the Kannada original by B V Karanth \nBaaghi Albele \nJohny & Minnie Makhija\, husband\, and wife are famous actors from a renowned theatre company in Ludhiana. During a performance of Hamlet\, a young and handsome soldier of an underground rebel organization B.O.L (Sukhwinder Singh) leaves just as Johny begins the soliloquy\, “to be or not to be” leaving Johny in a rage and Minnie with a new secret admirer. A short time later\, following the prohibition orders of the government\, all performances are stopped\, theatres are closed and so begins the chaos that ensues with the artists being forced to hide underground while also plotting a movement to bring back theatre and live performances. This masterpiece pairs comic absurdity with grim reality. Within the dismal setting of censorships and general crackdowns on comedians\, journalists\, writers\, and artists\, absolutely all stakeholders participate in this comedy. Directed by Atul Kumar An adaptation of Nick Whitby’s ‘To Be Or Not To Be\, A play based on the motion picture by Ernst Lubitsch \nAs Bees In Honey Drown \nAs Bees In Honey Drown Written by Douglas Carter Beane Adapted by Akarsh Khurana Directed by Anahita Oberoi “AS BEES IN HONEY DROWN is presented by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service\, Inc.\, New York.” \n“As Bees in Honey Drown is a smart and witty representation of the greed for fame\, glamour\, and the good life. A fast-paced entertainer\, set in an age that most often chooses image over substance – like taking to gleaming golden honey. Fame like honey\, can give one a rush of sweet pleasure\, while it can also drown one with its stickiness.” \nAadyam Theatre\, an Aditya Birla Group initiative\, presents its latest production\, ‘As Bees In Honey Drown’\, by Douglas Carter Beane\, Directed by Anahita Uberoi – a hilarious and thought-provoking satire on contemporary culture. It promises to tickle your funny bone while exploring themes of deceit\, betrayal\, artistic ambition\, and the power of illusion. \nThe play follows the story of almost famous author Dhruv who captures the attention of Alexa – a popular socialist who has made the world of celebrity her home. Alexa is a record producer and a film agent\, she seems to have connections to everyone\, and she offers Dhruv a handsome fee to write a screenplay of her life story. What follows are designer suits\, the best hotels\, and all the accouterments of fame. Come watch as Dhruv and Alexa take us through the glamour and glitz of the good life. \n15 April 7:30 pm \n16 April 2023 4:30 pm and 7:30 pm

SUMMARY:Curious Charms: The Magic of Aquarelle
DESCRIPTION:Curious Charms: The Magic of Aquarelle is a Solo exhibition by Dr. Sushma Mahajan Curated by Dr. Alka Pande \nUnique Creation and Arts Gallery presents the first solo exhibition of well-known radiologist Dr. Sushma Mahajan in Delhi\, titled ‘Curious Charms ~ The Magic of Aquarelle’ from 1st to 4th April 2023 at the Visual Arts Gallery\, New Delhi. The exhibition\, curated by Dr. Alka Pande\, attempts to view the beauty of flora and fauna through the creative imagination of the artist with a difference. \nA self-taught artist\, Dr. Mahajan\, chose the more difficult medium of watercolors to depict her well-defined artistic expressions. The Curious Charms ~ The Magic of Aquarelle series captures a wide spectrum of her imagination through her eyes\, ranging from animals to birds to architecture to still art. \nCurator Dr. Alka Pande says\, “Dr. Mahajan is a trained radiologist and\, through her passion as a painter\, looks at her environment through her own personal lens. She dives into the landscape and paints the most evocative landscapes where birds and mammals are placed in the human environment. She proves that you don’t have to be a trained artist to paint evocative pictures.” \nFlowers and animals have always been part of the natural habitat of the human environment. The artist has a unique way of viewing the artworks and immerses into the inner worlds of the animals she paints. She brings out the ferocious gaze of a big cat and the tender cuteness of a squirrel with the same ease. Her animals speak with her eloquently crafted eyes; this is something that sets her body of work apart and lends it a unique appeal. The beautiful bond that humans share with animals also inspires the artist’s brushwork. \n“Creativity takes courage. And it is all the more daunting when you are foraging in seemingly alien waters. Being a radiologist by profession\, my aspirations were very basic when I initially started to dabble in watercolors a few years ago. However\, it has evolved into an abiding passion now. Painting is a sort of catharsis for me. My art is vibrant and colorful\, it heals the soul from the hits of everyday life. All in all\, painting has become such a powerfully liberating force in my life.” Dr. Sushma Mahajan \n1st to 4th April 2023 \n11 am to 7 pm \nVisual Arts Gallery\,  India Habitat Centre\, New Delhi
