Date: 27th July 2018
Venue: Worldmark 3, Aerocity
This wasn’t the first time. We have been avid shoppers at Fabindia and have dined at Fab Café, Vasant Kunj. The Kathal (jackfruit) Biryani in quinoa was a new experience that lingered on the palate. This experience drew us to the newly opened Fab Café at Worldmark 3 mall, Aerocity.
It is a cosy space done in soft colours. Indigo printed cushion covers gave the place, the Fabindia stamp. A collection of plants provided succor to sore eyes. The dinner was served on handmade studio pottery in earthy colours.
The understated approach continued in the food and drinks as well. We had a starters – main course – dessert format. For starters we loved the Spinach and Water Chestnut Momo. The Mutton Galouti was melt in the mouth tasty and almost everyone on the table had second servings. We also loved the ladies finger, beetroot and sweet potato chips. These were non greasy and the yoghurt dip served alongside acted like a palate cleanser. We kept sipping sugarcane juice alongside.
In the main course, the Kathal Biryani in quinoa did not let us down this time as well. The Chicken Chettinad for once was mild. Hence all the flavours came out very well. No complaints about the Dal Makhani too. But the paratha, made of different flour, was a tad bitter and didn’t sit very well with the rest of the menu.
For desserts, the Lemon Poppyseed Ice cream was milky yet tangy. We could feel the poppyseed (khus khus) in our mouth. This apparently was as experiment that got ambivalent response. Some on the table loved it while others felt it tasted like a dessert gone sour. The Caramalized Banana Cake was nice and went very well with coffee that we had to end dinner.
While the dishes were familiar, there was an earthy tone to every item. Something that is not very common. The food was low on oil and moderately spicy and hence the taste of the ingredients came out very well. There was a clear stamp of Fabindia on the food as well. It tasted great and felt healthy.
On our way out we got some probiotic beverages and biscottis. And the biscottis, again not white flour but multigrain, were crispy and tasted of gur. Very tasty and very new. We are having it at home and this goes very well with tea or coffee.
Fab Café at Aerocity is familiar and yet very unique. Try this place if you want to have a fresh taste of known things.
Nice. I’m not much if the coffee lover but I’m so into Lemon Poppyseed Ice cream. Def. good choice of food selection for this cafe. All the best
Thanks Casey.
That ice cream was a first time for us. Unique.
Ooh, now you have me hungry for all these tasty foods! I LOVE Chicken Chettinad!!! Wish I could be there eating some for lunch right now. Looks like a fun place with great food.
It was a worthwhile experience indeed. The Chettinad looked simple but was a fusion of flavours without burning the mouth. Just as we like it.
Coffee and ice cream, I all in. Lemon poppy seed sounds so delicious.
This looks like a great cafe! I don’t drink coffee, but I’d get a tea and a pastry. I like relaxing at places like this.
I love coffee shops, and these Fabcafe looks like a great place to visit as well. The menu looks yummy especially the desserts. Thank you for sharing!
I love anything with spinach in it. I enjoy trying new places to see what is out there. Sounds like an interesting place to dine.
These food looks fabulous.. Indeed a great place to have gathering with friends and family.. great one..
A coffee shop with a huge mug of wonderful coffee and some cookies. I don’t need anything else if I also have a great book. But after knowing that Fab India has a coffee shop too (I being the huge fan of Fab India), I won’t probably leave the store. It all depends on the taste of the coffee.
Looks like a cool place with great food. I like relaxing at places like this. Would love to go there once.
love trying on new cuisines. Especially the spicy ones. Mostly, Indian dishes, because most of it is savory. It satisfies my taste buds.
