Delhiites are probably the only people in India who do not mind driving a few hours and several kilometres to eat at a humble dhaba. This trend of dining at a dhaba gave birth to multi cuisine fancy new age dhabas like Haveli and Amrik Sukhdev. This trend has been taken forward by Garam Dharam, a multi cuisine theme based Dhaba on G T Karnal Road. Garam Dharam has Dharmendra and Bollywood as its theme and it’s a huge dhaba with several selfie zones, separate sitting areas and a host of serverd taking care of the diners. Though the theme is essentially Punjabi the cuisine is not limited to Punjab and they have a multitude of dishes to serve all sort of diners.
To check out this place we also started on a pleasant afternoon recently with family members and dined at Garam Dharam highway dhaba. The car parking looked like a car showroom. The entry to the dhaba has Dholwalas playing Dhol and people shaking a leg at the beat of the drums. This may look a little weird to some, we think it’s quite in sync with joie-de-vivre of Punjabi culture.
Inside the dhaba is a huge courtyard alongside some chaat counters, a truck, a Jai Veeru bike which is probably the most sought after selfie zone. Autos, movie posters on the walls basically….it is a very colourful ambience.
We ordered a variety of dishes as we had elders and kids with us too. From lassi to masala dosa to Amritsari naan platter everything was above average to good. The service was prompt and the menu was not exorbitantly expensive. Apart from the regular default dhaba style tandoori paratha, we found everything good, even Chinese noodles were tasty. What works for Garam Dharam is that though it is a dhaba, the food is not overtly spicy and greasy.
Moreover the entertainment and the craze for selfie zones made this place more than just a dining experience. Kids had a lot of fun roaming around the sprawling space and getting photos clicked for their Instagram and Snapchat.
Garam Dharam highway dhaba is a pure vegetarian place and we feel is a great option to dine with family. If you want a simple paratha and curd on highway you are better of eating at some regular dhaba. But if you prefer AC restaurant and you have kids with you who expect spring rolls in a dhaba, Garam Dharam is your place.
