We are always on the lookout for tea places where we can sit-talk-blog. There’s indeed a black hole in this area, particularly in Gurgaon. Hence we were excited to come across the Goodricke Teapot – a tea cafe on Golf Course Road.
Goodricke has a lot of heritage in tea culture and is well known for aromatic teas. The cafe has a long list of teas that we are told are from Goodricke’s gardens in Darjeeling and Duars region. They also have a fair menu of snacks, savories and pastries to have with tea.
We were served the tea platter which is available for connoisseurs. This was a cluster of shots of various varieties of teas (green tea, white tea and Assam tea etc). All the teas had unique flavors but to go with the snacks we went ahead with full cups of Masala tea. This was served in chintz printed big cups. The tea was brewed to perfection and the milk complemented the aroma of the masala and tea.
We had portions of some savouries and cakes. Quiche and calzone were fresh, however we would like to specially mention the vol-au-vent – the French pastry with fillings of chicken, vegetables and cheese. The taste was as catchy as the name.
Among the patisserie, the red velvet cake looked beautiful. Not overtly creamy this was moderate on sweetness as well. We tried their muffin and lemon tart too. Their cakes menu also had a very colourful item – the rainbow cake. Topped with silver sprinkles, it was moist, light on taste and didn’t overpower our masala tea.
Incidentally they organize various programmes such as book readings, jazz nights etc. A variety of tea leaves are also available for sale.
We recommend this place for quiet evenings with family, friends or self. As Goodricke Teapot says in its tagline, it could be “an experience worth talking about”.
