Venue: Select City Walk – Saket
Date: 9 January, 2015
Of late Delhi is witnessing a shift in its nightlife culture. A lot of Delhiites are choosing cozy bars and pubs instead of loud late night parties for spending some good quality time with friends. These bars provide an unpretentious setting where people can hang out over a couple of drinks, some nice food and conversation after work hours.
Harry’s Bar at Saket (part of a Singapore chain) is also one such destination where you can sit, relax, talk, drink and have some interesting food. Curated by the celebrity chef Vicky Ratnani, Harry’s Bar recently unveiled their new menu. We received an invite for the event.
Located in ever so popular Select City Walk-Saket, the ambiance and decor of Harry’s bar is rather simple. Nothing that can distract you from the reason you are there for… to have a good time.
As soon as were seated, we were served some fresh feta cheese and green olives in a small glass jar. The struggle of reaching Saket at peak hours in evening from another part of Delhi/Gurgaon was somewhat subdued by our drinks – Red and White Sangria that came soon thereafter. The Fisherman Basket had prawn & shrimp fritters and was quite right to go with our drinks.
We were served a few starters after that. Vietnamese spring rolls had fresh veggies, peanuts and glass noodles wrapped in thin translucent rice sheets. It looked smashing and tasted great. Along with this we had Ratatouille stuffed mushroom caps. This was salty and flavourful, quite in contrast with the nice bland taste of Vietnamese rolls.
Next was a serving of Crispy Chicken and Potato Wedges. Crispy Chicken needs some major improvements or should simply be taken out of the menu. It just didn’t gel with rest of the offerings. Euphemistically put, it was quite “local”. Potato wedges were however 10 on 10. We loved the garlicky, spice/sour flavor of these sinful wedges.
Small burgers with lamb patties also left an impression with their cute looks. Watermelon and Feta Salad was simple, fresh and sumptuous. This is a good option on week evenings when you don’t feel like consuming a lot of calories and still want something to go with your drinks. We had a glass of Dirty Harry (A slightly sweet bitter cocktail with liquor on a lot of crushed ice) with this.
Quite satiated by now we gave a miss to the main course and straightaway went for dessert. Chocolate is one sin for which many calorie conscious people can be sent behind bars. And we committed this sin literally sitting in a bar. We had a Volcano Chocolate Cake for dessert. It was molten chocolate inside a chocolate brownie cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side. They flambéedthe cake right on the table. Gimmicky to the core, this dish was like a well hidden guest appearance in a Bollywood film. Every bite of the cake with molten chocolate oozing out of it made our hearts go mmmm. Clichéd as it may sound, they saved the best for last.
It was quite a fulfilling experience and given the cozy ambiance and nice food and drinks, we foresee ourselves visiting Harry’s Bar again sometime soon.
