Venue: Pragati Maidan
Date: 14-27th November 2014
Trade Fair is back with a bang. The long traffic snarls in the Pragati Maidan area is the witness of its perpetual popularity. The theme this year is Women Entrepreneurs. Almost every stall therefore highlights the popular women faces in business as well as the unsung women workers in the fields of agriculture, weaving, crafts and cottage industries.
The foreign participants included South Africa, Afghanistan, Iran, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka. They had got along traditional as well as contemporary crafts, food items such as dry fruits and spices and clothes.
Thailand was the theme country. They not only had a dedicated pavilion to themselves but also shared space with other countries in the common international pavilion. The Thai nick knacks, artificial flowers and costume ornaments seem to be very popular.
Delhi was the theme state for this year’s Trade Fair. Some of the noticeable stalls were TJs (Tihar Jail’s stall with furniture, bakery stuff, paintings and clothes) and Delhi Tourism stall promoting tourism for Delhi.
Trade Fair is also a platform where one comes across some of the myriad innovations that come about in various industries in India. We were particularly impressed by the Solar Charkha. The Charkha was spun by solar power.
The metro railways has also lived up to the occasion to ease crowds they had make-shift ticket counters just at the trade fair exit. The number of ATM machines has also proliferated .
State specific cultural programmes were being held at the various auditoriums and amphitheater in Pragati Maidan.
The organizers had doubtlessly worked very hard to make it a complete experience.
