Imperfecto can be seen as soon as you enter the immensely popular Hauz Khas Village. It’s on the third floor of a building right at the entry of the village. Lot of wooden stairs to climb but the artefacts on the way up give you an idea of the place inside. Their decor consists of imperfect things…. like a broken typewriter, rusty locks and keys, a broken sofa etc. It is a mix of kitschy and yuppie styles.
Our first visit to Imperfecto was an invite for the launch of “My Yellow Table” show with Celebrity Chef Kunal Kapoor. Since then we have visited this place a few times. The restaurant covers two floors where one floor is just for food and has the bar and the other floor has a dais for live performances along with tables to sit and eat. Both the floors have smoker’s balconies.
When we visited, there was a live performance by band Turkush on top floor. A good option for people who enjoy live performances by independent bands.
The seating space is limited, ambiance dark and music is a little too loud for talking. The cuisine is a mix of Mediterranean, Italian and Continental. We started by ordering a chicken soup, pizza pockets and ham croquets. Soup was slightly salty than what we prefer and was served with garlic toasts. Toasts were nice. Ham croquet is one of their recommended dishes and we liked it as well. Pizza pockets took a little longer to deliver and we found them quite bland. There was very little chicken filling inside.
We also ordered basa fish with lemon grass sauce which was fresh and well cooked. It also encouraged us to order fish based dish for maincourse and we ordered casserole of basa. This was a big bowl with basa fish cooked in whiskey sauce. It came with some baby potatoes dipped in the sauce. We ordered garlic toasts to go with this dish. Just like other dishes this was good but not wow. The taste and flavors of most of their dishes are basic and we missed the magic that a skilled chef creates with hidden flavors and techniques.
Imperfecto Staff is polite and service is great. The washroom was out of order on both our visits. We mentioned it in the feedback book. Hope the guys at Imperfecto take notice.
