Several outlets of Barbeque Nation along with the likes of Pirates of the Grill have brought buffets to aam aadmi who would generally avoid spending a lot for five star lunches. These restaurants have made the trend of “live kebabs on your table, unlimited servings followed by main course and desserts” popular.
Indian Grill Room follows the same style, the only difference is that their buffet is strictly Indian. No Chinese spring rolls or pizza bites in name of starters. From kebabs to main course to desserts, their whole menu is North Indian and Mughlai. Which we think, is a great idea – less stress for diners and lesser confusion on their taste buds.
We were in Gurgaon and we had a Zomato voucher for Indian Grill Room to redeem. After making reservations, we went to this restaurant for a buffet dinner. We opted for outdoor seating and were told that the rooftop area is reserved for a la cart diners. On request, they offered to serve kebabs outdoor and requested us to use the covered area for main course buffet.
The outdoor seating of Indian Grill Room is wow. They have extremely comfortable bean bag kinda seats amidst some small water pools that have floor lighting system and glow in the dark. To battle the heat, they had coolers/sprinklers installed on the rooftop. Not sure whether they had a live DJ or they were playing something recorded, the music selection was also brilliant. Full marks to the designers for creating an amazing ambiance! It can surely be a hot spot for couples looking to bond over food.
For starts, they served an assortment of kebabs like chicken tikkas, veg kebabs, grilled pineapple, pickled mushrooms and kasundi fish etc. Most of these were good but we liked dahi kebabs the most.
We moved to covered area for the main course. This area looked regular and crowded in comparison to the rooftop. We had some Makhni dal, Soy chops, Mutton biryani, Chicken Chettinad etc. One can mix their own raita from their dedicated salad and raita station. They had provided all ingredients from boondi to veggies to chutneys for customising your raita.
We liked what we ate though frankly after kebabs, it takes some time for the taste buds to come out of a food coma and to appreciate anything else. And foodies that we are, we were saving some space for desserts too.
We had paan kulfi, mango kulfi, gulab jamun and rabri for desserts. Yeah a bit of moong dal halwa too which was heavenly.
On our way out, we noted that the buffet also listed mocktails as a part of it. But this was not served to us.
With easy parking arrangements at the building basement, this was overall a nice experience. Though Indian Grill Room has nothing new to offer, it’s a great option for people who love North Indian or Mughlai cuisine and for others who occasionally crave for north Indian shaadi ka khaana but can’t hold up till the next wedding invite.
Wow awesome. .Loved d ambience 😍Would surely love to visit dis place someday!
