Who says Independence Day can be celebrated only by saluting the tricolor? For our 70th Independence Day, we wish to give you a heads-up on what’s happening in the field of arts in Delhi NCR.
We had heard of Indianama being organized by the creative agency Animal and reading up about it we could only understand that it was going to be different. When we reached the venue it took us a while to fathom that there was no tangible artwork (read paintings, sculptures, etc). This was a collection of a series of animated images that were being projected on various whiteboards. This was new. Once we started getting a hang of this cartoon movie-like clippings that were going on the walls around us, we realised that was the art. It was a collection of new-age vector art loops of 12 seconds each that were stitched together in a set of 7 for each screen. Created by a host of designers, illustrators or artists from all across the world who use digital format, this was definitely a new age.
The moving images depicted everything India. These were humorous, satirical, or at times sarcastic depiction of how we Indians go about various aspects of life. Under the broad theme of Indian travel and tourism the artists covered aspects of life such as deities and religion, politics, transport, nature, neo-Buddhism, classical arts, and of course Bollywood. Most of the frames had titles. Read some – “Land of gods and Bollywood“, “Land of fiery digestion“, “Faith and bias“, “Sur and Taal“. The best was perhaps “Indianamo” depicting our Prime Minster Narendra Modi’s bonhomie with world leaders. Now that is food for thought we say!
In total, there are 70 artworks and poster-like prints of these frames are available for sale.
Indianama is an obvious ode to the upcoming Independence Day and the exhibition is on from 12 noon to 8 pm, 12th to 15th August 2017 at KONA, 1, Jor Bagh Market (First Floor), Jor Bagh, Near Lodhi Road, New Delhi. The event is ticketed at Rs. 250 per head.
Given that such moving images are a very unusual and interesting concept, without a single moment of monotony, in fact rather edgy, we are moved. One doesn’t need to be arty to appreciate this kind of art. So it can be an event for all.
Indianama has a boho chic ambiance and is indeed a fun-do way to celebrate Independence Day.
So interesting, You are doing such good work.
