ITC Hotels celebrate Coffee Week with Sunbean Gourmet Coffee

Venue: ITC Maurya, Delhi

Monday instant was International Coffee Day and all coffee lovers have been upto coffee stuff. We have been high on tea-coffee and rose to the occasion at ITC Maurya, Chanakyapuri. It is a weeklong celebration here and they are serving some hot stuff prepared with Sunbean Gourmet Coffees. Sunbean is ITC’s coffee brand. It is a new range and has already created a charming presence in the market.  Here is a sneak peak of what to expect.

It is a short menu with Nicamalai and Panagiri coffees. We were served a selection of cold and warm drinks. The Nicamalai range is a combo of select beans from Nicaragua with sweet flavoured Arabicas from Anamalai, grown on some of the highest peaks of South India. It has a somewhat fruity flavour and is very suitable for cold beverages. We had an amazing cold drink made with this coffee. Made us go to beaches in our head.

We had two hot coffees with Panagiri blend. It brings together select beans from Panama with sweet flavoured Arabicas from Baba Budangiri, the birthplace of Indian coffee. This variety is an intensely fragrant coffee with a pleasant roasted nutty taste and a hint of chocolate. They had whipped up a fancy warm drink with cream and coconut on the top and coffee decoction at the bottom. The bitterness of coffee fused very well with the sweet cream. The next one was a cuppa of Latte. Good old strong coffee that gives you an energy rush. This powder is very suitable for our South Indian style filter coffee.

On the side we had some savouries from ITC kitchen. But the best was this dessert by Fabelle, their chocolate boutique. They served an arty looking piece, broke our heart to eat that. It was an éclair with a chocolate filling topped with caramalized white and Belgian chocolate.

It was a decadent affair but worth all the caffeine and calories. Sadly this fancy treat here is on for a week although the Sunbean coffees would be available round the year we guess. We are coming back to ITC Maurya for a cuppa again soon.

Coffee is really good. Would love to have this kind of coffee someday. What is the secret behind it, if I may ask?

It’s good that this type of events happen. When I was in India I had a hard time finding good coffee, most of it was just instant.
