Kerala Travel 2025: Why It’s The Perfect Summer Destination

Feb 15, 2025 | Travel

If there’s one place that keeps calling us back, it’s Kerala. The lush green landscapes, serene backwaters, and vibrant culture make it a destination that never gets old. So, when we attended Kerala Tourism’s Partnership Meet in Delhi recently, we were all ears. This year, Kerala is pulling out all the stops to welcome travelers, and trust us, it’s the best time to pack your bags and experience ‘God’s Own Country’ like never before!

A Summer Travel Boom Is Coming!

Kerala Tourism Director, Ms. Sikha Surendran, spoke about the surge in domestic tourists, and we weren’t surprised. With summer vacations around the corner, more people are looking for unique, experiential getaways. Kerala is ready, and how!

From houseboats in Alleppey to tea plantations in Munnar, from adventure sports to pristine beaches, Kerala is ensuring a wholesome travel experience. We’ve seen firsthand how well the state balances traditional charm with modern tourism initiatives.

New Focus: Exploring North Kerala

We were thrilled to hear about Kerala Tourism’s special focus on North Kerala this year. Having recently explored Bekal, Wayanad, and Kozhikode, we can vouch for their untapped potential.
  • Bekal: The famous Bekal Fort overlooking the Arabian Sea is one of the most picturesque spots we’ve visited. The sunsets here are magical!
  • Wayanad: If you love adventure, this place is a dream. Ziplining over tea estates, trekking to waterfalls, and staying in a treehouse – Wayanad is a paradise for nature lovers.
  • Kozhikode: A food lover’s delight! The biryani here is legendary, and the sweet, sticky Calicut halwa is an absolute must-try. We still remember devouring it fresh from Sankaran Bakery!

Kerala’s Global Recognition & Upcoming Festivals

Did you know Kerala was recently ranked the second ‘Most Welcoming Region’ in Booking.com’s 13th Annual Traveller Review Awards? We weren’t surprised at all. The hospitality here is unmatched, whether you’re staying in a luxury resort or a cozy homestay.
If you’re visiting soon, plan around these exciting events:
  • Nishagandhi Dance Festival (Feb 14-20) – Witness India’s best classical dancers performing in Thiruvananthapuram.
  • International Surfing Festival (Feb 27-28, Varkala) – Yes, Kerala has a surfing scene, and Varkala’s waves are perfect for it!
  • International Paragliding Festival (March 19-23, Vagamon) – Imagine soaring over lush hills; this is adventure at its best.
  • Mountain Terrain Biking Championship (March 28-30, Wayanad) – If you’re into cycling, this is one thrilling event to watch.

During this partner meeting in Delhi, we got a glimpse of Kerala’s Chenda Melam, Theyyam, Kathakali, and Kerala Natanam. The dance and music transported us to God’s Own Country.

Why Kerala Should Be On Your Travel List in 2024

Kerala isn’t just about sightseeing; it’s about experiences. Here’s what makes it special:
  • Luxury & Leisure: Destination weddings, MICE events, and high-end resorts are redefining Kerala’s tourism landscape.
  • Stay Options for Every Budget: From caravan stays to Ayurveda retreats and jungle resorts, the choices are endless.
  • Food Heaven: Whether it’s a traditional sadhya served on a banana leaf or a spicy seafood feast, Kerala’s cuisine never disappoints.
