Experience Royalty at Kuthar Fort Palace, Koshaa Resort

The Fort Palace

As we entered the majestic premises of Koshaa, we were struck by the grandeur of the Kuthar Fort. Painted with Rajasthan-style motifs, the property promised an eventful stay. The only Fort Palace in Kasauli, Koshaa exuded an aura of opulence and charm, transporting you to a bygone era.

Staycation at Koshaa by Embrace Hotels

Our journey of relaxation and rejuvenation began as we spent our first day unwinding amidst lush lawns, feasting on mouth-watering cuisine, and soaking in breathtaking views of the fort and valley below. Evenings were magical, with soft music playing as we savoured the calmness seated in the enchanting gazebo.

Forest Walk and Farm Visit

The next morning, we took a refreshing walk through the resort’s private forest, immersing ourselves in nature’s embrace. The visit to their organic farm felt like stepping into a vintage storybook, where we delighted in plucking fresh fruits straight from the trees.

Kuthar Fort and Museum

The afternoon was dedicated to pampering ourselves at the award-winning Akasa Spa, melting away our stress and tension. Later, we explored the fascinating museum inside the fort, featuring rare collectibles that offered a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of the region.

Food at Koshaa

Simple wholesome fare – that is what we had here. From basic North Indian fare to Chinese, sandwiches and pastas, the chef here served the whole gamut that we love to have while travelling. They also have a bunch of Himachali items listed on the menu.

We would especially recommend the poha, chicken noodles and among desserts – Kheer or rice pudding. We would have had these hundreds of times, but the chef at Koshaa seemed to have got the tastes spot on.

Also, big thanks for following our request to keep the dishes mild on spices.

Activities at Koshaa by Embrace Hotels

For those seeking adventure, Koshaa offers an array of activities, from cycling and archery to pottery-making. It also houses the award-winning Akasa Spa and we had rejuvenating sessions here. They also have an indoor swimming pool where young and old can splash around and soak in some fresh air and sun lying at the pool cabanas.

Also, for history buffs or thrill seekers – a visit to the Kuthar Palace and the quaint museum is a must-do here. Don’t miss the sitting area with log table chairs in a shed just outside the palace. Photo hunters would also thoroughly enjoy the view of the valley from the lawn surrounding the palace. That said, our favourite pastime was simply sitting on the terrace or lawns, listening to the melodious chirping of birds-a rare treat for city dwellers.

Activities Near Kuthar Palace, Koshaa

If you are visiting Kuthar Palace, you must visit Kasauli, one of the closest hill stations from Delhi and one of the prettiest too. Even in the midst of summer, it is cool and exudes a holiday vibe. Established in the colonial era, and now an army cantonment, a walk down Mall Road and the lanes of Kasauli is sheer time travel.

How to Reach Koshaa by Embrace

By Train

You can take the train and drop at Kalka Railway Station. A taxi from here would take you to Koshaa. The drive is about 2 to 2.5 hours.

By Bus

Alternatively, you can reach Dharampur by bus and take a taxi from here. Most of the HPTDC, HRTC, and private operator’s buses en route Shimla or HImachal destinations pass by Dharampur. Just ask the driver to stop at Dharampur as it’s not a regular stop for these buses.

By Car

We drove from Delhi and it took us 6 hours to reach. The road condition was most impressive. The last 40 km or so, i.e., after Dharampur was on a narrow single road, albeit in good condition. Yet, it would call for some mature driving skills to drive at the last stretch. Do contact Koshaa before your trip for precise directions.

Driving Directions

The route from Delhi to The Kuthar Fort is via Garkhal, not Kasauli. You can drive on Delhi Shimla highway till Dharampur. From Dharampur you take a left on Kasauli road. (At this point we would recommend you ditch Google Maps and call the hotel for directions). After Garkhal you take a right turn (instead of left for Kasauli) to Kuthar Fort. From Garkhal Chauk, it is a 15 km drive to Kuthar Fort.
