Venue: Sirifort Auditorium
What’s wrong with Anupam Kher? Extremely disappointed with the stand up comedy/soliloquy– “Kuch bhi ho sakta hai”.
We had high hopes from the show considering Anupam Kher was performing live in Delhi. We queued up at Sirifort auditorium for almost 45 minutes even after procuring the invites one day in advance. We were seated at 6.30 and the show only started at 7.10 – Almost 40 minutes after the scheduled time. The only thing that kept us going was the fact that we’ll get to see Anupam Kher perform. But ten minutes in to the show and we realized it’s a bad case of “Oonchi Dukan Pheeka Pakwan”.
We never thought Anupam Kher would have to push and prod people to applaud for him. Take this – Anupam Kher saying “Don’t just sit like pseudo intellectuals. I’m not here to do mujra. Give me huge applause or I’ll leave from here.” That was very rude and inappropriate. If that was him being sarcastic, he needs to check his sense of humor.
The show started with Anupam Kher walking up to audience and mingling with them. That was gimmicky and created connection with audience.
Probably he didn’t get the kind of enthusiasm he expected from audience and it upset him…. The moment he was on stage and started performing, he was fumbling in almost every third line. Content of the show was very weak. The act had him telling stories from his childhood, teenage and youth… most of which was quite clichéd and boring. Just to make it interesting they had a couple of stale jokes thrown in here and there.
To redeem our Saturday or whatever was left of it we decided to leave and have a nice dinner somewhere. We couldn’t stand the show beyond 40 minutes.
Mr. Kher, you are fantastic in films, please stick to it.
