Radisson Blu at NH-8 is running a month long special at NYC where Sunday brunch is geared towards Mediterranean food. Being huge fans of this cuisine we couldn’t resist to try this on a recent bright and cheerful Sunday afternoon.
Mediterranean food is primarily cooked in olive oil and the ingredients are based on fresh produce like veggies, lean meat, fish and sea food. Flavor wise it is subtle and herb based rather than heavy with strong spices. Just the way we love it.
The buffet was full of mouth watering exotic dishes inspired from European and Middle eastern countries like Greece, Italy, Spain, Morocoo, Lebanon etc. Good part is while they have several options, the buffet was not so extensive that the diner looses their way back to their seat.
The salad station was a riot of colors and flavors. Several sea food salads, bruschettas, grilled artichoke, cold cuts, shots of prawns with Guacamole, Quinoa greek salad and what not. This was our favourite part of the buffet.
We had two varieties of cold soups – Almond and garlic soup and Melon Gazpacho. Almond Garlic soup was quite flat. We didn’t like it much but Melon Gazpacho was awesome. We had it with their range of accompaniments – bread croutons, pita chips etc.
Done with our soup and salad, we had Moroccon spiced fish, prawns and chicken pie that was served in small cups.
They had a wide variety of breads in all possible shape, sizes and flavors. To keep ourselves light, we didn’t focus much on this and tried their other dishes.
We tried some bit of non Mediterranean cuisine that was also served on buffet line. From Chinese, we liked rice with bok choy and corn and fried chicken. From Indian cuisine we loved their dals. Both black and yellow varieties were delicious.
Their dessert section was also heaven for diners with sweet tooth. Churros – The Mexican fritters and Bakhlava were perfect with our Lattes and Cappuccinos. Spanish rice pudding tasted like our Bengali Payesh just a bit too refined. The lemon cheese cake and tart were also good. We skipped the Indian desserts though we’re sure they would be equally good.
Since Mediterranean cuisine is all cooked in olive oil and most of the ingredients are healthy and high on nutrition, it’s a perfect binge for the spring season.
A big thumbs up from us.
