Mexican Food Festival At The Lalit New Delhi

Dec 6, 2023 | Food

We recently had a culinary trip to Mexico via Fiesta Mexicana – The Mexican Food Festival at The Lalit New Delhi. It was like entering a vibrant world of flavors and aromas that Mexican Food is known for world over. Here’s our sneak peek into this flavour fiesta.

Salads and Surprises

While our Mexican dishes were being prepared we raided the salad bar that was stocked with fresh veggies, cold cuts, delicious dips, hummus, and some well-plated salads.

Tortilla Triumph

Our absolute favorite? We started this Mexican affair with Tortilla Soup. Tangy as a Cream of Tomato, with a creamy surprise at the bottom and tortilla noodles swirling around. Like they say, well begun is half done, it was the perfect overture, setting the stage for the main course.

A Mexican Affair

The venue for this culinary extravaganza is 24X7, The Lalit’s all-day restaurant, which was transformed into a haven of Mexican delights. The star of the show? Chef Tanya, flown in from Mexico, sprinkled her magic on every dish.

We indulged in a delightful culinary experience, treating our taste buds to the vibrant and zesty flavors of the Chicken Tinga Tostadas. Each bite was a burst of savory goodness, as the tender chicken, marinated to perfection, harmonised with the crisp tostada shell, creating a symphony of textures and tastes.

The journey through our Mexican feast continued with the flavorful Fajita Burritos, a medley of succulent meats, grilled vegetables, and aromatic spices, all tightly wrapped in a soft tortilla. The combination of sizzling fajita ingredients and the comforting embrace of the burrito shell made every mouthful a satisfying and savory adventure.

Amidst these bold and robust dishes, we discovered a refreshing balance with Mexican Shrimp Soup. Warm and comforting, just what you need in Delhi Winters.

We love Mexican food and are pretty confident that you would like it too. We know it because there are striking similarities between Indian food and Mexican food. Both these cuisines involve seasoning with similar spices such as cinnamon, cumin, coriander, and chili powder. Consequently, both Mexican and Indian dishes look reddish to brownish and are fiery in taste. Next, both cuisines use copious amounts of grains like rice, and flour, especially maida and corn. You may have also noticed that like gravy in Indian cuisine, Mexican food heavily relies on sauces to complete a dish.

In every dish, the essence of Mexican cuisine unfolded, offering a culinary journey filled with bold flavors, diverse textures, and a celebration of the rich tapestry of Mexican culinary traditions. Our taste buds danced with joy as we savored the artistry of each plate, leaving us with a memorable and satisfying gastronomic experience.

The Churros concluded our Mexican feast on a sweet note. Topped with chocolate sauce and paired with coffee this was a befitting end to our dinner.

Beyond the Mexican Food Festival

The Lalit didn’t stop at just Mexican wonders. The regular buffet menu unfolded a gastronomic parade featuring pizza, salads, kebabs, and desserts. It was a true feast for the senses.

Health on the Plate

For the health-conscious, there was a dedicated millet counter, showcasing the versatility of millets in salads, starters, mains, and even desserts. A nod to the Indian government’s declaration of 2023 as the year of the millet.

Spreading Joy Beyond Plates

What warmed our hearts even more was The Lalit’s collaboration with the Robinhood Army, an NGO ensuring no food goes to waste. Unconsumed buffet delights find their way to those in need, making it a meaningful way to usher in the Christmas spirit.
